Lenard
well i figured it would happen and it did, going to work this morning driving thru downtown Kansas city running around 40 mph and the tranny slammed to 1st gear and that was it. i stoped checked fluid it's good, started back up and all i had was 1st and reverse. just had it towed to clinton, and drove it again, and had all gears, shifted just fine no problems. WTF? :wall:

Eagle
Have you been having tranny problems? Your post indicates that you expected it to happen. Why? Shifting of the AW-4 is electronic, controlled by the TCU and also by solenoids. The factory troubleshooting method is to pull the fuse for the TCU and test drive. You'll lose second gear, I believe (or first). Other than that, you shift manually. Try that and let us know if there are any glitches.
mythreesons
In this thread Lenard discusses his ongoing problem before this current happening......... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=19823 Eagle and others with long time knowledge on the AW-4: Does the TPS sound like a likely culprit considering he says that it shifted fine after having it towed? Or maybe the tranny computer with a hit/miss electrical connection (or a part going bad with heat)? Funky issues start then get more frequent but are not always present doesn't sound like mechanical (if it's broke, it's broke all the time) but rather electronic (heat, cold, vibration, etc. issues to consider here) in root cause. Am I leaning in the right direction on this or am I all wet? Scott Trying to understand these magical beasts
