poopypants Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 ive swapped an entire 96 country edition xj into my 89 manche (drivetrain/dash/wiring/seats/etc)...so i want to use power windows/locks/mirrors...i did a couple quick measurements a while ago and just went with the assumption that i could swap the '96 doors on when i got to that point... i just read on the 'things mj owners should know' thread that only '97 and up doors will swap...is this true? because that would suck

Not sure why that thread would say that. I currently have an 88 XJ door on my MJ, and have had a 94 XJ door on there before. No problems what so ever to install them. I have 2000 XJ full power doors that will be swapped in next spring when I get the whole MJ painted.
pilotblake Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 2 door XJ doors will not fit, they are longer. Front doors from any 4 door XJ will fit. The newer doors have a different striker/ latch position that would need to be addressed. Plenty of good information about it on here.

poopypants Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 yeah these doors are from a 4door...i know they measured out the same but after reading the post i was worried about the vent windows or door striker not matching or something to that affect...thanks for the response

I understand the feeling, my truck and I have kinda had a falling out. I'm about ready to tarp it and come back another day. Just don't have that spark we used to have lol, also It eats money.
comanche09 Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 IIRC if you can score 95+ XJ doors, they will also have "side impact reinforcement beams" in them, for that extra warm and fuzzy.
Eagle Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 IIRC if you can score 95+ XJ doors, they will also have "side impact reinforcement beams" in them, for that extra warm and fuzzy. Oh, goody. More weight to help rip the upper hinge off the door post. Sign me up!

jbhill Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 you should just be able to swap the innards...
poopypants Posted November 12, 2009 Author Posted November 12, 2009 i was thinking about that but the Mj drivers door has a decent dent along the b-pillar which i think would be a pain to fix...may still be an option though
