DansGreyMj Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 my mj is a dd as well as a wheeler but mostly street/highway i an going to run between 32s-33 and was wondering how low i should go to keep good speed and mileage, by the way its a 4.0 5spd
DirtyComanche Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 4.10 - 5.13 Unless you spend all day going 70mph+, go damn low. But, it's a lot cheaper to pick up a set of 4cyl axles with 4.10s in them. Or a 4cyl front and a 8.8 rear.
BrettM Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 4.56 I got 20mpg with my 4.0/AW4/4.88s/33x12.50s the 5 speed has a little less overdrive, so 4.56 would be better. if there's any chance you'll go to 35s just get the 4.88s now.
Hot Rod Jeep Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 I agree with DC, a 4 cyl front and an 8.8, but 4:56's are nice too.
CWLONGSHOT Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 I agree....for your specs, 4:56's is what I would do... CW
Bounty Hunter Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Considering most 4.0L/5spd MJ's and XJ's came with 3.07 gears, I'd go with the 4.10 and be done. I found a Jeep D30 and an 8.8 in the junkyards, $100 each.
DansGreyMj Posted September 10, 2006 Author Posted September 10, 2006 I'm gonna find a non-disco 30 with 410s and buy 410 thick gears for my xj 44
