mj-comanche
Hey guys ive got a 86 manche but its got a bad engine. would it be smarter to put the original 2.8 v6 then swap an engine with a little more power in that wouldnt just bolt up
Pete M
go with the block from a 3.4L camaro/firebird. it's identical on the outside and will accept all your current accessories/intake/exhaust. http://jeep.off-road.com/jeep/article/a ... ?id=277008
mj-comanche
whole engine or just the block
Pete M
how much of a project do you want? It's totally possible to buy a whole car and swap in the fuel injection. But if you're not up to wiring all that, the block/heads are what you're looking for.
mj-comanche
me and my dad have decided we do not want to tackle fuel injection. how hard would it be to make just the block work?
Pete M
the link should tell you what's needed. it's not much harder than swapping in a new 2.8L
mj-comanche
:D thanks. You sure have been a lot of help and ive only been on here for less than a week. So id like to thank ya for all your help. I talked to my dad and he seems to think it is not a half bad idea. He just wants to find an engine that will not require a lot of cleaning up so it won't end up costing so much. But i think he wants to try it
Pete M
I also recommend upgrading the carb if you can
Geonovast
You'd be better off with one of these over another 2.8:
mj-comanche
thats why I'm looking at doing the 3.4 and i will upgrade the carb if i get the money  but right now I'm saving so when the engine is done i can get a rough country 6 in lift... Eagle
I also recommend upgrading the carb if you can I'll second that. The OEM carb is, in a word, "awful." An old Boy Scout canteen with a drip tube into the manifold would be better.
Geonovast
An old Boy Scout canteen with a drip tube into the manifold would be better. I kinda want to go out and try it, just to see, if in fact, it would be better. Something tells me it would be.
