XXLMJ Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Its time for me to change my transmission mount and i was wondering if rubber or polyurethane was better. Or is it more of a preference thing? I have an 89 4.0 5-speed 4x4 if that makes a difference. I use the truck for more On road driving than off road.
XXLMJ Posted October 17, 2009 Author Posted October 17, 2009 Not sure what trans i have, is there an easy way to check?
Pete M Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 AX-15s (on the left) have a front half and a rear half with a big steel ring separating them. Peugeots have a left and a right half with a line of bolts running along the top and the bottom.
Eagle Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 If you don't know which transmission you have, how do you know that the mount is available in both rubber and polyurethane?
XXLMJ Posted October 17, 2009 Author Posted October 17, 2009 Peugeots for sure thanks for the pic. Is one of those 2 trans you showed me better than the other?
Eagle Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Sadly (for you) -- the AX-15 is a much stronger transmission than the Peugeot. The Peugeot is an okay transmission if you don't abuse it -- the one in my '88 Cherokee is now at 287,000 miles (+/-), but once they break ... don't spend any money repairing it.
XXLMJ Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 Ok thanks for the info, One more question, can you swap these 2 trans with minimal work?
Pete M Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 This article should help out with the basics:  http://www.jeeptech.com/convtrans/ax15swap.html
