thejum57
I need to replace the brake rotors & pads on my 86 Comanche. When I go to look up prices, there is listed one piece, with studs, or two piece that slides over the existing studs. Does anyone know what an 86 2WD came with? I know I could take a wheel off & check, but I'm feeling a little lazy.....thanks.
Automan2164
I believe the '86 2wd was a hubbed rotor, meaning the hub and rotor are a one piece assembly. Rob L.
HOrnbrod
All 2WD MJs - One Piece Rotor (solid rotor and hub) All 4WD MJs - Separate rotor and hub 1993 was the change year when all XJs received the same rotor.

reson46
All 2WD MJs - One Piece Rotor (solid rotor and hub) Not true. My '91 has a separate rotor and hub. I know the earlier ones were one piece, but I don't know when they changed them. Willy
HOrnbrod
Yes it's true. Both my 91 2WD MJ and a 2WD 92 XJ I had have the one-piece hub/rotor. The parts manual confirms this. 93 was the change year. Your 91 2WD must have been changed out to 93+ knuckles/hubs and rotors, or it's a prototype of some kind. Got any pics? Because I'd like to do this at some point in time.
reson46
Interesting... :hmm: Now you have me thinking. I was pretty sure the rotor was separate when I was working on the brakes. But, I could be remembering wrong. All the D30s are starting to blur together.... :ack: I'll have to take a closer look when I get a chance. They're talking about the 2wd axle. From what I understand, some of the 86 2wd fronts had a hub, with separate rotor, and a dummy axle shaft to go in the center. Then they went to the one piece bearing/rotor, and then sometime in the early-mid 90's they went back to the separate pieces.

dakineJ
I've heard you can retrofit a unit bearing hub to a one peice knuckle.I was'nt aware they were on 86' 2WD's.I was wondering if the unit bearing would be stronger?

The 1986 Comanche 2WD could have either setup. I am not sure about the other years. My factory 1986 parts manual lists both setups for the 1986 Comanche 2WD. You will have to check yours to see which setup it has. I hope this info helps.
mjeff87
I've seen them in the junkards from time to time as well, never checked what years they were. First one I saw made my head turn.....I thought whover owned it did some creative swapping of parts somewhere down the line. But then I saw a few others.
