vzehler
Hey guys, I'm away from my truck right now and I need someone to help me out. I'm running by the auto parts store on the way home to pick up some new frame end bushings for my sway bar. Problem is that they list about 5 different sizes and I guess they're not really application specific. So, Ive got a 1989 Jeep Comanche, does anyone know what the diameter of that sway bar is? (most of them are listed in millimeter's)
Darren
23mm
Eagle
There is no way to KNOW definitively what diameter bar is on any XJ or MJ without measuring it. There were three or four different diameters. Buying bushings based on someone else's guess as to the diameterr bar on your vehicle is almost guaranteed to get you the wrong size bushings. Measure your bar. maddzz1
I have an 89 Pioneer 4wd and it is 15/16 what ever that is in mm. Coversion chart says 15/16 = 23.
Darren
I measured my stock 87 bar with a micrometer.
Eagle
I measured my stock 87 bar with a micrometer. Great. That tells us what diameter YOUR sway bar is. It doesn't provide any insight into what size HIS sway bar is. The guy asked a question because he was ready to buy parts. Your advice could cause him to buy the WRONG parts. I'm sure your intent was to be helpful but sometimes offering unfounded extrapolations is NOT helpful.
mfpdm
I made the mistake of not measuring and going with what I thought I figured out from the FSM. Bought what I thought should be on my 88 only to return them when they didn't fit. Easy way to measure if you don't have a micrometer is to use an adjustable wrench. Close it down on the sway bar as tight as you can, slide it off, then measure the open gap of the wrench with a tape measurer.
