64 Cheyenne
Currently I'm working on installing my AX-15. But first I need to get the Clutch Slave assy installed.Looking for suggestions on installing my 99 master into my 87 MJ, before I start drilling holes. So far, to make room, Iv'e moved the hood release cable, up to the right as seen in these pics. The wire thing inthe pics is just a zip tie, not there for any particular meaning. Next comes the MC ,I clearanced the index on the mounting flange so I have more options on how the mounting "clocks. This wasnt really needed as I think I'll use the stock mounting setup. Now for drilling the holes, here, where the Xs are or is there a better way?
Pete M
There may be something of use in here: http://www.jeeptech.com/convtrans/ax15swap.html I adapted my old master to the new slave so I side-stepped the new master mounting issues.
Sir Sam
uh dude, I think thats a TJ master, not an XJ. This is the XJ one you want:
64 Cheyenne
Oh Well, it's a done deal now. as seen in my DIY post viewtopic.php?f=9&t=16546 BTW the JY that I purchased this stuff from sold it to me off of a "99 Jeep Cherokee" I'll be double checking just to be sure, although, I'm sure, that what I got is gonna work. Edit: According to carfax, the vin# of the vehicle that my parts were sold to me under , is a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport.

Ok well then they lied to you, thats not a XJ Master of any year, all the XJ masters from 93-01 are the same, and have the line that comes out the top and behind the booster like in the picture I showed you. IIRC all TJ masters come down vertically like that one you seem to have.
64 Cheyenne
If I had a XJ master, say from a 99, would it have bolted up without any fab like i had to do?
Ibby
I pulled the master out of my '00 Cherokee to replace that silly hydraulic throwout bearing system in my '90 MJ. Direct fit, I imagine a 99 Cherokee is no different than a 00. They used the same tranny.
Sir Sam
If I had a XJ master, say from a 99, would it have bolted up without any fab like i had to do? Correct, same bolt pattern and everything, no fab involved. Like I said, all the masters are the same from 93-01(even though the slaves changed to the external setup later, the master is the same part) I pulled the master out of my '00 Cherokee to replace that silly hydraulic throwout bearing system in my '90 MJ. Direct fit, I imagine a 99 Cherokee is no different than a 00. They used the same tranny. Even though the switch from the AX15 to the NV3550 occured in 2000 the master cylinders stayed the same, heck the whole master/slave setup stayed the same. But whatever, if he made it work then it doesn't matter what it came from. Most likely the yard just confused which vehicle it cam off of and sold the wrong one to him.
