HOrnbrod
The 91-01 MJ/XJ draglink factory p/n is 52006592; the 84-90 is 52000601. Anyone know the differences if any? Thickness? :dunno:
james750
Maybe there were different TRE's on the link? I think they are the same thickness.
Geonovast
When I put a 88ish D30 with steering on my 91 4.0, I tried to just unthread the turnbuckle until it popped off the TRE, to avoid removing the TRE. When I went to put the older axle on, they were different diameters, so I ended up having to take the TRE off anyway.

Geonovast
Honestly can't remember... but I know that the newer TRE would not thread into the older turnbuckle.
88 Beast
I ran into the same problem when I rebuilt my front end. There are two different size TREs available for same year trucks. I don't remember the sizes though. Best bet is to take old part with you to parts store.
comancheman
i just replaced all the TRE's on my 89 with 91 and up parts. it is my understanding that the threads at the adjusting sleeve are different. advance auto's site specifies a 22mm thread for the 91 and up parts. nothing is specified for the older models. also the p/n is changed for the 91 and up adjusting sleeve. everything fit tight on my 89. Thanks, that helps quite a bit. I need part #8 below on my 91, and have a source for a new 84-90 factory part for basically nothing from our local dealer who I'm pretty sure is going belly-up very soon. I know the sleeves have different p/n's as you mention, and my 91 sleeve may not have the same threads. BUT if the 91 parts fit on your 88, same should be true in reverse. yes? Image Not Found
comancheman
I'm 100% sure that part #8 will fit just fine but you will also have to get #6 and #7. the TRE tapers have to be identical because the 91 and up tre fit tight in my 89 pitman and knuckles. the only thing i cannot verify is that the taper where part #5 attaches to part #8 is the same between the years but i highly doubt that they would change just one taper. I think you are exactly right, as I have the late model V8 solid ZJ tie rod attached to the drag link, and the tapers are the same. So, this must mean the the adj. sleeve and TRE threads are smaller than 20mm on the 90 models and below; the reason for the different p/n's. I might be better off getting the 91 and above drag link part #8 and keep the bigger 20mm threads. Thanks for your help.
