Scout dana 44 rear

Recommended Posts

the 5.9s had the D44a.

But other ZJs also had the D44a.

Correct. This is evident to anyone who has ever owned a ZJ and went looking for a rear 44. You stumble across the info that ZJ's had a rear Dana 44, and think you've hit the jackpot! That should bolt right in!

Then you realize that it is the aluminum housing and your hopes are dashed.....it's a sad cycle....

Holy crap! He didn't flip it, he had it retubed. That is way too much work for a low pinion axle. :fool:

Depends on how you want to build something. Myself I'd have used a Ford HP pumpkin in that build, but if you want a Scout low pinion, why not?

If you are going to retube it there is no reason not to use a Ford D44. It doesn't even matter if you find one with the cast radius arm mounts at that point because you will just be getting rid of them.

Why would anyone want to use a Scout low pinion axle for a project like this? Less ground clearance, pinion riding on the weaker coast side of the ring gear, lower driveshaft that is easier to damage...
