comancheman Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Can anyone tell me a part number or a place i can get the O-Rings that seat inside my D30? I'm not sure if they were in every d30. I'm working on an 89 with the CAD, they basically seat where the axle tubes meet the differential housing.
CWLONGSHOT Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 I was not aware that there was such a thing.... The tubes are a press fit into the housing. Are yours leaking??? CW
comancheman Posted April 14, 2009 Author Posted April 14, 2009 they exist! i really have no idea what purpose they serve. i don't think they seal the tubes where they are pressed into the housing. when i pulled the carrier to change out the axle seals i noticed the o-rings. one was cracked and both of them were "squished". when i pulled it out it just fell apart so i need some new ones i guess. just don't know where to get them.
Wildman Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 You posted........ the O-Rings that seat inside my D30? Are you talking about the "seals"??? There are no O-rings inside the axle, there are Seals. Here, check this out, to see if were on the same page- http://gojeep.willyshotrod.com/HowtoD30AxlesSeals.htm
comancheman Posted April 14, 2009 Author Posted April 14, 2009 see my really sweet MS paint? I'm not talking about the seals. ive read that post like 100 times. the orange rings right in front of the seal are what I'm looking for. mine are black and all they seem to be are rubber o-rings.
Wildman Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Yea, I thought that's what you were looking for :hmm: OK.......I check my master parts list, and I don't see any part, or number for the "orange" or Black seals. I guest the best thing is to size them up with some calipers and just get some O-rings to match. Other wise just replace the axle seals, and hope for the best. Sorry no big help here :(
IDXJ Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 I think that may be sealant that squeezes out when the tubes are pressed into the center section on assembly. It looks like an O-ring 25 years after the fact.

It's been a couple years since I've been inside a D30, and what I found was only the axle seals at the carrier :dunno:
CWLONGSHOT Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 That's what I am saying, yes on the axle seals, but these "O" Rings are news to me... I have been wrong before and for sure will again. Like I have said a thousand times...you learn something new everyday. :D CW
comancheman Posted April 15, 2009 Author Posted April 15, 2009 I'm 90% sure that there are 2 o-rings in there. ill take a closer look this weekend when I'm home from school and post some pics for you non believers
Wildman Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 It's not that were "non-believers" it's just most of us have never seen the O-ring where you say it is, and there is no part listing for it
aemsee Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 As IDXJ said, it is sealer that is from the tubes being assembled.
comancheman Posted April 19, 2009 Author Posted April 19, 2009 ok ok when your wrong your wrong and I'm wrong it is the sealer
Wildman Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 No Problem :D It's just 3-4 of us "old timers" didn't think there was an O-ring in there. But glad you doubled check to keep some of us "old timers" in check
