pilotblake
I am fairly sure my temp sensor is reading right. I havent used a heat gun or anything, but I put a 160 stat in for the winter and when the thing would first warm up the temp would rise then level off at 160-180 but then on the highway would not drop any lower than 160. With the thermostat out it would never get to 160 on the road. How would I run 2 radiators or extra cooling tank. I do have another all aluminum closed loop style radiator in the garage that is new. How do I join the two? And at what point do do I upgrade the water pump?
TNT
Here is a great link for radiators, fans and sensors. FxRacing282
well to run dual you would want to make sure you have enough clearance in front of the motor. you would have to drill and solder it together. but it would greatly increase cooling capabilities. pilotblake
Well as much as I hate to do so I think I am going to just throw money at Manche and hope for the best. I like to keep things to a minimal as far as complex systems, so I am going to try a different radiator. Here is what its down too: Summitt sells one for - $499 + s/h. It says it is for a SBC conversion. I would have to take there word. won't ship till first of may Griffin Radiator will make one for $565 + $40 s/h. The guy says it will do the job easily. 2 week build time U.S Radiator needs me to send in my old one as a template, and prices START at $500 + s/h Northen Radiator does not make one, they said to see if they had something else that would fit The winner in my book both for cost and accountability is Superior Radiator. They will make one for $320 + $40 s/h. The guy said that they have a guy in the office or was good friends with a guy that has an XJ with a supercharged 360 and that he hasn't had any problems overheating. He sounded sincere, you can ususually pick up on if people are full of sh!% anybody had any positive/negative encounters with Superior Radiator or any of the above mentioned? pilotblake
What is your source for these fans? SPAL fans are way too high priced?

dasbulliwagen
Another thing Ive always heard good things of is Water wetter, an additive to put in your cooling system that helps the water transfer heat faster....something to do with breaking down the waters surface tension to allow more contact between the water molecules and the inner surface of the radiator. They sell that brand or something like it at most parts stores or performance shops.
troy6187
I went through something like this when i had my xj with a sbc. I used a three core brass and copper radiator From a bronco ll with a v6. On the road or idling it never went over 180-200 depending on outside air temp. Offroad however it would overheat in 15 minutes. Make sure all the airflow from the grill is going through the rad. Block off unneccesary holes in the rad support. You will also definately need to find a way to let hot air out of the Engine bay. Space the back of the hood up, install vents, or a scoop of some kind. And as far as the electric fan debate? You can't beAt the two speed fans from a ford taurus! pilotblake
What years for the taurus fans? also what is needed to run them two speed?
jbhill
i doubt the taurus fans would fit, there huge!
troy6187
I would not have suggested the taurus fan if it would not fit. Many people have been using these in xj's for years. Granted, its not a drop in relplacement, but they can be used. Early to mid 90's taurus' with the v6 came with the 2-speed fans. Search on naxja or visit gojeeps site for write-ups. The 2-speeds get wired like any other fan. There sre just two circuits to wire instead of just one. And the high speed needs an 80 amp relay. There is not an aftermarket fan that pulls near the same cfm as these fans. If this is something you look for on ebay make sure it is a stock replacement fan. Some of the cheap replacements are not two speed.

TNT
Check out the dimensions of A 94-98 ZJ radiator. It should fit between the steering gear and the frame rail. It is also meant to be able to cool a 5.9 Magnum engine. It also is about the correct size for a Taurus fan. The V-8 radiator has a passenger side lower hose and a drivers side upper hose. It should solve your cooling problems and be budget friendly.
pilotblake
Thanks for all the info, it has been very helpful  . Hopefully more is added if seen fit and this can become a tool for others wanting info on a V8 radiator swap since all the key search words are in the title. I went ahead and ordered the superior custom all aluminum radiator, and the guy assured me that if this doesnt do the trick nothing will. I am hoping that this doesnt just mean nothing will work :fool: . I am still going to look into the ZJ Rad. I just couldnt find much that was designed for a V8 but was narrow enough for a cherokee. I will post up pics of the progress. Also what are people paying for used taurus fans? Everyplace I have checked wants around $50 for a used fan? :fs1:
jbhill
50 sounds cheap, but is there a pullapart near you? ZJ is grand cherokee correct?

jbhill
ok i just went and took some measure ments, it looks like the zj rad will work with a lil bit of trimming. the bottom of the rad should sit about on the bottom of the front xmember once u cut out the top of the stock crossmember. its narrow enough you can move it to one side to offset for the steering gear. here's the dimensions i got off of my 3 core rad. H-11 3/8 W 36 1/4 D- 3 1/4 it would make it more vunerable for offroad rigs tho... time to hit the j yard....
