Could also be a bad battery. If you have a spare working battery lying around, I'd give them a test swap since it's the fastest and easiest test you can do (just take the cables off and put them on the new one). Other than that, if the starter is jammed up or seized it will effectively try to draw infinite current from the battery (and whatever boosters you throw on it) and give pretty much the same symptoms as a bad battery. Also check your grounds, make sure everything looks good and clean, give a few tugs on the cables to make sure everything is tight (I've seen crimps fail on the ground wire, looked perfect visually but about a 1 oz tug pulled the wire right out).

I had this same problem starting last week, after putting in a new battery and cables and what not i hoped on here to ask the forum, turned out it was in-fact my starter. You can try this right now: bang on the starter with a wrench or hammer, if it starts up, then you know for sure its your starter. Good news, the auto parts guy quoted me a price of $70 dollars for a new starter. Good luck, let us know if the banging "fixes" it. Its not a permanent fix, but it will get it running so you can drive it to the parts store/not be stuck in some parking lot waiting for a ride.

Just got mine back on the road from the same thing myself. One Saturday put about 90 miles on it, lots of stop and go, probably started it 10 times that day with no problems. Next morning, ........nothing. Plenty of juice on battery, banged on starter, jiggled gear selector in case it was neutral safety switch, ..........nothing. Try this with a friend; when you turn the key if the lights dim it's almost definitely the starter. If your headlights don't dim at all, something else is killing the juice before it gets to the starter.
