Geonovast
Just happened to skim CL before going to work and noticed this. 1989 jeep pickup (Evansville WI) need parts...... call for info xxx-xxx-xxxx 89 swb 4.0 2wd 5 speed. No motor or trans, he had pulled it from an MJ to put in an XJ. $300 The front is a little bashed up from when he was moving it around. It had a bumper on it from something else, they had drilled their own holes for it, and it was a decent hackjob of the control system when the motor was pulled. Very little rust despite the factory stepsides, and the bed is practically perfect. Tons of scratched on the inside and a dent in the front left bottom, but I didn't find any rust. Then, almost all the way home towing it, my front left wheel fell off. Apparently all my lugnuts jumped ship. Amazingly, the tire stayed in the wheel well and kept the truck off the ground. It happened right after a turn and I wasn't doing more than 10 when it happened. Lifted it up with a jack, stole one lug nut off each wheel on the towed truck, and drove home. jtdesigns
Great deal.. I ran into some Comanche, or should I say Comanche owner today who has a small repair shop near me. Stop in to ask about a ol junk MJ in behind his shop, we started talking and he has a MJ with a 300 HP 327 sbc that he mounted onto a Blazer frame,, Guy Lives like less then 5 miles from me! Going to cruz over to his house tomorrow and get us some good pictures.. This guy has raced mug bog Jeeps since the early 70's. He had lots of cool old pictures of all his "monsters" he's built over the years.. Nice little find you have there,, even if your wheel fell off!!! I think your truck was jealous!!!!! 500 MJ
I've never had lug nuts come off of the front. The Drivers rear however... I've been in three Jeeps when they came loose on that particular wheel (Must be something with how the torque is applied to it). Every time though - the wheel stayed on the brake drum enough for the Jeep to safely stop on the side of the road. Now I use a torque wrench.
brdhntr
ok guys, torque and re-torque!!!! i check the torque on my wheels pretty regularly on all my vehicles. one year heading to deer camp 2 young girls passed us doing 80 or so. about 100 yards in front of us, the right front wheel flew off the car. we were lucky no to hit them, but they were lucky they weren't killed. i jumped out right away to check on them. they were fine. while we were waiting for the cops, the driver told me she had just had the brakes done the other day and showed me the bill. i was quick to point out the sentence that said "wheels lug nuts must be re-torqued within 100 miles". i've always torued my lugs on a pretty regular basis. after that, i check very often. i'd like to think all of my wheels on the vehicle when i drive. :D :D :D :D
Geonovast
I had never lost a lug nut before this, on either or my XJs or my 2.5 MJ. The only difference really on that truck is I have Ford rims on it. I can't imagine not having the friction of the center hole making that much of a difference on it. The only other possibility is someone is sabotaging them, and if I find out who it is and I can prove it, I'm sure I can get them in quite a bit of trouble for endangering my life. (and my Dad's for that matter, he was in the passenger seat.) I should be moving the new MJ from my Dad's garage to a storage shed on saturday, I'll grab some better pics then. The ones I posted earlier are from the ad.

Geonovast
Did you get the spare door thats in the bed too? Sure did. Got everything sitting in the bed, all the front clip stuff, and pretty much everything that was taken out of the engine bay when the motor was pulled. I think the only things I didn't get were the motor itself, tranny, and radiator.
