comancheman
i've got a short bed comanche and there is a lot of rust over the wheel well and on other places i was wondering if it would be possible to weld in rear quarters from a 2 door xj or at least most of the quarter panel any ideas? 87manche
it's been discussed. They will fit, but it will be far from perfect. They might be god to use for the crease, and then you could make your own sheetmetal from there. My MJ has been repaired there, it was seamed just below the crease with flat sheetmetal, then some light body work ws done to blend it in.
Eagle
It will always look like a cobbled up patch job, because that's what it will be. The XJ wheel arch opening is smaller in both height and length, and IIRC the height from the bottom of the panel to the first body crease is also different. A friend of mine used XJ quarters to get his beater MJ through safety inspection. It didn't have open rust holes, but it sure wasn't pretty. DirtyComanche
Ditch the bed and flatdeck it. Image Not Found Or be like Pat and just cut the frame off too.

sinnaevd
You can get the patch panels depending on how extensive the rust is. When I contact sherman to ask if they were over going to stamp fill blown rear quarters for the bed, they said they were workign on getting the stamping dies. but for now, check the panels at shermanparts.com . they might cover the size of the wholes you have, and I know of a couple guys who have used them and had good results. comancheman
will definetly check out sherman parts and as for the flat deck, the beds already off the frame (or what remains of the frame) and a flat bed wouldnt be a bad idea but i just really like the way the comanche looks with the short bed. If it makes you happy though a sledge hammer was involved in bed removal
pingpong
I only get filled full of GLEE when torches and plasma cutters are used for removal of body parts :teehee:
sinnaevd
but it makes for such a messy cleanup. i prefer the nibbler
pingpong
plasma cutter = almost no clean up if used right :brows: As for the torch.. yeah you have to chip and grind some slag.. but it just so much faster then most other methods
sinnaevd
I suppose, I hate the warp you can get from using the heat like that, more then likely due to my inexperience/lack of techinique
pingpong
If used properly.. you will get no more distortion out of a plasma then you wil out of using a cut off wheel
