So i searched for like 35 min and couldnt find a good thread for converting to 4x4. :fs1:

From what i understand i need to get an XJ with the same engine and gears as the MJ, swap in the tranny, tcase, front axle, front driveline and have a rear driveline cut down, and swap in the center console so the tcase shifter will fit and everything is a bolt on with no fabbing except for the rear driveline. Am i correct  Does anybody have a link to swapping a shortbed 2wd 4cyl to 4x4?i can't find the thread

It is literally as easy as you listed. Everything is bolt on, other than that you'll have to drill four little holes for the linkage bracket on the body to be mounted. There's dimples there, so you'll know where to drill.

But yeah... just move everything over. If you're dealing with automatics you may have a problem with the trans computer year. Not sure though.

Best way would be to have your rear driveshaft cut down. Gonna be a lot easier than finding a shaft that's the right length.

Then you likely have 3.55 gears and should be hunting for a 2.5/5-speed XJ so you can get the 4.10 geared axles.

I'm hoping i won't drop below 20 mpg as i average about 25 right now but with the 4.10's and added weight of the 4x4 drivetrain it might be pushing it

I think the bigger tires + 3.55 gears are hurting your mpgs. I'd bet they go up with a more appropriate gear ratio.

yep just checked. i have 3.55's and tires are lt215/75/15's in back and p215/75/15's in front. i have a set of either 2 or 4 205/70/15's that i will look at today and probably mount

oh, well 215s aren't that bad. I was thinking you had 235s for some reason.

Still, 4.10s will help your engine out. Jeep eventually did away with the 3.55s behind the 2.5L.
