beaterjeep
DISCLAIMER: THIS IS A LONG POST Well, as some of you may or may not have noticed, I've been gone for a while. This is because I was involved in a serious racing wreck. I race (well, now used to race) at a track a couple hours away from me in the 4 cyl. hornet class with a '93 Ford Escort wagon. Well, on the night of June 9th, I went racing as usual, my heat race went well and I got a 2nd place which was good for the feature. Well, I drew the pole position for the feature and all was good on the first lap, then as I was entering turn 1, my left rear tire blew out causing me to spin sideways just as the fastest car on the track (an '89 turbo rustang) was coming into the corner. I don't remember the accident or anything until a week after, but have seen the video of what happened, but needless to say the driver of the rustang had no time to react and t-boned me full force right behind the front tire on the driver's side. As the safety crew came up to check on the otherr driver and ask him if he was ok, they noticed I was out cold, head slumped down and all. After they pushed his car away from mine, it took them almost 2 hours to get me out as they had to cut my door off, cut my rollcage apart, cut the steering column off, my clutch pedal, and cut part of my seat to get me out. They didn't even bother with taking my helmet or neck brace off, in case it would do damage, or loading me into an ambulance, and call in med evac, and had me airlifted to Minneapolis Minnesota. As I got there I started regaining conciousness, and the doctors decided it was best to put me into a clinically induced coma. I was in the coma for a week and awoke to find out I was hurting pretty bad. Ended up with a severe concussion, dislocated left shoulder, cracked the bone in my upper lseft arm, virtually shattered my left wrist, cracked 3 ribs, broke 2 more ribs, one of which was 2mm away from completely puncturing my lung, cracked my hip, hairline fracture in my femur, broke both bones in my lower leg, and essentially snapped my ankle into many many pieces. Come to find out that when I was pulled from the car, my leg was straight like I was pressing in the clutch, but the outside of my foot was wedged under the clutch pedal, I have since had a total of 3 surgeries, one to get my ribs back in place and two on my ankle, with about three more to go before my ankle is almost normal. I spent a lil over a month in, and just got out yesterday, and go back to the docs on the 2nd to see how I'm healing. Sorry about the long post, but just thought you all might like to know about my latest near death experience.

beaterjeep
Thanks guys, I'm hoping for a quick recovery too, but more importantly than that, I'm hoping for a sucessful recovery. BTW how did the other driver fair? He walked away with just some minor scratches and bruises along with a case of whiplash, I almost think he was luckier than I was. Gotta love them second gen Escorts (I've got a 94 that's my DD). Yea, they're strong lil cars I gotta give them that, of course when I first started running it I was getting laughed at for running a wagon. After a few weeks of racing they didn't laugh any more.
