I thought the reservoir on the drivers side fender was the washer fluid, however when I opened it, it looks like the P/O has put in water and antifreeze. I am thinking if I spray it on the windshield and it runs down on the truck it may damage the paint. If true, I should probably drain it and put in new fluid. Am I missing something, or does it sound like my conclusion is correct. - Thanks

Does it smell like antifreeze? If it's actually antifreeze, I'd siphon it out. I don't think it'd hurt the paint, but I'd also not take any chances. Plus I'm allergic to the dang stuff and don't want it all over the place. :shake:

Mine looks like that when I change over from the blue washer fluid to the yellow washer fluid I use in the winter time.

 

The yellow has a lower freezing point and is a deicer. jamminz.gif

 

Who knows it could be that or P/O was a few cards short of a deck... :nuts:

 

Right now mine looks like I pissed in the bottle... :rotfl2:

Thanks for the feedback.

 

Since the P/O said he has never added fluid, and it was always done by the oil-change shops, I conclude either:

 

One of the shop hands put in coolant. :shake:

One of the shop hands put yellow de-icer in over the blue coolant. :nuts:

Or, somebody pissed in the reservoir. :ack:

 

Time to drain, I think! :thumbsup:

I did try to smell it, but I could not detect a distinct odor of any kind. I think that is a pretty good indication, but given that there is a pervasive motor odor under the hood to begin with, I am not 100% sure there is no odor in the fluid.

2.5L or 4.0L? Either way, the normal spot for the washer resivoir is on the driverside inner fender inbetween the back of the airbox and the brake master. BUT, the coolant overflow/resivoir bottle on a 2.5L is also on the driverside inner fender, between it and the side of the airbox. Lemme see if I can dig up a couple of pics....

Here’s a decent shot from when I swapped the timing set on my 2.5, with the airbox removed. You can see the two resivoirs:

I’ve since relocated the washer reservoir on mine (when I swapped a dual diaphragm booster in, it didn’t quite fit there anymore) to the other side of the engine bay. The vacuum canister that used to be behind the front bumper occupies that space now :D
