88jeepcomanche Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 going to look at an 88 w/2.5 4cyl to possibly buy. the owner said it needs a new slave cylinder because the clutch doesnt engage that good. he says he still drives it every day though. whats the best way to tell if this is really the problem, or if its the clutch, master, ect.. also is that year supposed to be external or internal slave cylinders?? not fimiliar with jeeps, but from what ive read I'm hoping for external. any other things i should check out before i buy?? thanks for the help guys. hopefully this will be my first jeep and first truck/suv in general. later, jason

88jeepcomanche Posted December 16, 2008 Author Posted December 16, 2008 yeah, I'm the guy. just trying to find out some basics. thanks for the link
92comanche4x4 Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 cool good to see you joined this is an awesome group
Geonovast Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Wouldn't a bad slave make it so the clutch didn't disengage that well? If it's having trouble staying engaged, I'd look at a worn clutch disk, tired PP or even a sticking master cylinder.
92comanche4x4 Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 i it goes in fine but it leaks fluid really really bad and I'm thinkin its the slave
pingpong Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Either way.. I would replace both if you bought it. Since you have to pull the trans... might as well replace that as well. If you pay a shop to do it... most will not charge an extra to do it either.
Geonovast Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 I would do a little looking... if you can find the parts for a decent price, I would try to convert it to an external slave. My 2.5 is a 91, came with an internal, has a 93 XJ trans in it, with an 86 Bellhousing and external setup.
