thejum57 Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I want to install an after market tach in the Comanche. I'm pretty sure which wire goes where, but one goes to the (-) side of the coil. I don't see a coil here. Is this what replaced the coil in later years?? Image Not Found If so, where the heck do I hook up the tach???????? Thanx, Jim
FxRacing282 Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 yes. thats an external coil. the wire for that should be on the distributor... i believe. on Delco-Remy it has a plug that says "TACH". not 100% on jeep but if tis not there its probabally on he distributor.
Pete M Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 My aftermarket tach went to the coil, or more precisely, one of the wires right below the coil. Can't remember which one though. I'm thinking black. It was in the instructions that came with the tach. Can't even go look since I removed it for a factory setup years ago.
thejum57 Posted December 11, 2008 Author Posted December 11, 2008 I don't see anything on my distributor but the plug wires. Does it matter that it's a 4 cyl.?
Pete M Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Mine went to the coil area, not the dist. I don't know if there's an attachment point at a Jeep dist.
BLHTAZ Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Go to my post here... viewtopic.php?f=9&t=12734 It is an electrical manual. Scroll to page 15 and it will show you a detailed diagram of the coil/ignition module wiring including the tach output.
