Catatonic Comanche
The subject OEM part number is supposed to the a stock Metric-Ton Package driveshaft for an MJ with the following features: Shortbox/AT/4x4/DANA 44/3.54 So why is it so short? Thanks, Paul
Mitch
whats the length? Whats the length you need? I don't really understand what your point is.
Motion Offroad
Being that the AW4/NP231 combo is one of the longest in overall length available in the MJ's, and that the D44 has a longer "snout" than the D35 does, it would make sense to me that the d-shaft with that combo and it being a SWB would make it one of the shortest d-shafts available. Pete M
If it's supposed to be for a Metric Ton, then it won't be a shortbox. As far as I can tell, those 2 things were never offered together from the factory. But regardless of that, the 4.0/AW-4/D-44 was available together (tow prep package) and I'm guessing it would be the shortest driveshaft ever in an MJ since, as mentioned above, the individual parts involved are the longest.. Catatonic Comanche
I wouldn't even guess that it is much longer than 4-feet in length. The MJ is away being painted so I do not have the ability to compare. Currently, the DANA 35 is still on the MJ. I remember the last time I looked under my MJ with the 35, the old driveshaft appeared to be in excess of 5-feet. I am guessing that the factory 44 that I will be swapping in the near future will make up for some of the shortness of the subject OEM driveshaft. Thanks! Paul
JeepcoMJ
pete, the "big ton" package (metric tonne) was offered on shortbeds at one point or another...there's a few members on here with the heavier duty leaf pack and shortbeds IIRC
Pete M
Anythings possible I guess. But it was never an official offering.
JeepcoMJ
Anythings possible I guess. But it was never an official offering. no it wasn't. I believe it was an add-on to the tow package or off-road package. dana 44 equip was found in swb too, and I know my swb had bigger springs in it. Catatonic Comanche
Correction...the subject driveshaft is only a little longer than three feet in length.! I hope this is the correct part... :beerhead: Paul
Pete M
3 feet? as in 36"? That's a bit too short. A stock driveshaft for the above truck should be closer to 43" (or somewhere thereabouts). Sounds like you got an XJ driveshaft maybe?
mjeff87
Had to have a shaft cut for my MJ to about 42.5", running an AX15 with D44 (SOA). The longest XJ shaft I found in the 'yard was 40" (AW4, D35). Jeff
