tranny mating question

I'm lookin at a parts cherokee for the 4x4 setup, my question is, will an ax15 that was behind a 4.0, mate to a 2.5 without an adaptor?

Not with Jeep parts. Pete has reported that the Dodge Dakota 4-cyl pickups used the 2.5L Jeep engine mated to an AX-15 tranny, so you could use that bellhousing if you can find one.

I read it on NAXJA I think. A guy figured out how to do it and posted up his progress. I remember it being more involved than simply finding the right bellhousing. :(
