ax-5 electrical connectors - can you identify THIS?!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, my 87 ax-5 had two threaded connectors into the side of the passenger side housing. The foremost one was the backup light switch. I don't know what the aftmost one was for, but the replacement 2000 XJ AX5 I'm putting in doesn't have a hole for it. Here is a picture of the sensor or whatever it is that I took out of the trans. What is it?!

As you've stated one is the reverse light switch. The other is the Shift Light switch that activates the dash light to prompt a gear change.

Ah! Good call. There's nothing on the 2000 ax-5 for the shift light that I noticed. I'll just cut that little ol wire ;) I think the bulb was burned out anyway! Thanks. What's funny, though is that the end of the sensor you CAN'T see, screwed into the trans, has a ball at the other end, and it's spring loaded, you can push it in a bit and it pushes back out. I wouldn't think the shift light worked like that.
