tjbliley
Sounds like a vacumn leak. check all the lines under the hood and inside the dash. also check the resevoir behind the bumper on the pass side and make sure it is not leaking.
partsmj
Be sure to look where the black plastic line runs under the battery tray. if it is broken just splice it with vacuum hose.
GirsMJ86
let me know what you find out the reason is. mine does this with all fan settings not just ac. so let me know. i was thinking it might be the volt reg in the alt, so i was going to by a new alt but if it something else let me know. alex
DansGreyMj
the hose under the battery was my problem it had a small crack and it works fine now, godd thing to it was over 100 today in riverside, ca. i was wondering if someone could send me a pick of what 134 fittings look like cuz i was told that mine must have been converted cuz it has 134 fittings but i want to make sure first, thanks for everything
GirsMJ86
a 134a fitting looks like an air hose connection. the r12 kind just screwed on. alex
ROADLESS
DansGreyMJ, Here you go: As you can see they are quite large as GIRsMJ86 pointed out
GirsMJ86
Roadless, did you do that yourself with the kits they have in stores? if so is there any special thing you have to do to get your system to take the cans of stuff? mine won't take any of the retrofit oil stuff or 134a stuff. just wondering if there is something you have to do first. like an old r12 era valve in there you have to open or something. thanks alot. alex
ROADLESS
GIRsMJ86 - No, i thought about doing it myself but the compressor was shot as well, so i had it done by local mech. The red and blue fittings are typically what you get with the store bought kits. The elbow i got from NAPA for easier access to low pressure side (blue), which is where you add refridgerant. The fittings just screw onto the old, schrader like valves. Charging the system essentially involves adding refridgerant to the blue low pressure side (opposite the one i am pointing at!). I would make sure that your fittings are on their proper sides and that you get all of the old R-12 evacuated out of the system? You might want to think about changing out your receiver/drier if you have not already done so. Its kind of like a filter and traps contaminants as well as old R-12 oil which is not healthy for your compressor when combined with R-134a oils and refridgerant! Let me know if you need help finding the high and low sides or have other ?'s. I am by no means an A/C expert, but am glad to share what i know.
