  1. I just followed your directions on subaru headlights (girlfriends). It worked great, I added one step I used 600 grit paper between the 320 and plast-x to cut down on polishing time. They had 200,000 miles on them and they were a mess.
  2. I live in Seattle, and am originally from Forks, Washington the rainiest place in the continental U.S. I was just there this weekend. I've found that my BFG All-terrains work pretty well, but with the kind of rain we get here and at the redwoods in northern california, you simply have to be careful. Nothing will stick in a torrential downpour especially since Cherokees and comanches are light in the butt. I always have 120lbs. of sandbags in the back of my comanche and I had two cherokees with 4 different types of tires including aquatreds in Forks and always slipped when it really rained. If she has full-time in her jeep tell her to use that. I put the 242 transfer case in my comanche just because of all the rain and hills up here and makes a huge difference. The extra weight right between the wheel wells helps a lot too
  3. I have a cad and a 242 and today forgot to engage the cad while in full time (set up a manual vaccuum switch). The truck didn't move when I let out the clutch. Engaged the cad and everything moved. I didn't rev it much though. Checked part time lo and high and will move with the cad disconnected. Did I break something or will all the power go to the disconnected front due to a lack of traction like an open differential? It moved well in the snow a few weeks ago so the full time seemed to work well then. I'll have to find some dirt this weekend and see if I spin all four tires (or at least three rear trac-lock).
  4. Love the Yugo!!
  5. Question: Do seats from Grand Cherokees fit in our comanches? I'd like to get some adjustable lumbar in mine and haven't found any from a cherokee limited yet, but have found some from grand cherokees. If they do fit, do I need the whole mechanism and brackets?
  6. I'm not a hardcore wheeler either. Used to be with my old cj, but I'm simply too poor to constantly break and fix stuff. In fact the comanche hasn't been offroad yet (Next weekend will be it's first) since it began as a 2wd. My valence went away over a year ago and never had any problems.
  7. How is it in the way? I haven't put mine on yet. Looks like it basically just covers all your steering bars. This seems like a good idea. Didn't look like it was much lower. I only have a 3" lift.
  8. I just got a skid plate today from a 1989 comanche. The bolts are metric the back ones took a 15mm wrench to remove. The three nuts on the front turned out to be 8mm with a 1.25 pitch. But my jeep doesn't have the studs so I bought studs and bolts that fit the nuts that came off the 1989 then tried to thread them my 1992. Turns out I only have one threaded hole (I think. only checked quickly in the parking lot) and they don't fit so the holes must be threaded different than the nuts. I'm just going to drill it out and put in the bolts. How common are these skid plates I don't think I've seen one before and it's pretty heavy duty.
  9. That's what I thought, wasn't too worried about the horsepower, but that thing is a torque monster for a stock motor. I take it you left your r/t an automatic then?
  10. Hello, I have a question that doesn't necessarily fit here, but I do own a comanche and have a 2wd ax-15 left over from my 4x4 swap. My brother's dodge dakota r/t just ate it's tranny. I'll probably just get a new tranny for it (I inherited it), but got curious if the ax-15 can handle that power. It's 250 hp 345lb/ft 5.9 liter V-8. I'm assuming it would eat the ax-15. A manual R/T sure would be fun. The ax-15 will probably find it's way into a rambler or triumph at some point.
  11. Is there any difference in the length of the front driveshafts in cherokees and comanches? I turned my 2wd into a 4wd with a 3 inch lift. It has a 4.0, ax-15, and an nv242. I needed a rear driveshaft from an automatic since the 242 is one inch longer than the 231 and the auto is one inch longer than the ax-15. My front driveshaft is the right size, but I can't remember what it came from, and it is worn out and needs replacing. Can I get one from any 4.0 jeep?
  12. O.k here's the pics if I'm doing this right Here's my new dash switch the knob turns left or right to activate. The knob is an aluminum knob from quadratec I had a 6pack for my cj and had one left over. The 4wd light is a standard LED from the hardware store and a piece from the vaccuum switch I dissasembled from a wagoneer glued together. I only used the inner part of the wagoneer switch and threw the unnecessary stuff out. With the light if the vaccuum lines fail, the light will no longer work either and I'll know I lost 4wd Here's lines from dash to axle One line to vaccuum source under hood routing And to axle And the actuator Also ran a jumper wire to the light in the dash from the fuse box (The orange one) . Taking the dash off is now difficult, but what's behind it is simply three lines to the three nipples on the switch. The center is the line in and other two are out to the axle. There are three wires, the one from the fuse box and two from the axle. I combined the fuse box wire and one axle wire into one and hooked to one of the light's wires and the other axle wire to the other light wire. The switch at the axle finishes circuit when the axle is engaged. Hope this helps.
  13. What is involved in the change from r12 to r134? I thought the systems were different pressures and everything with different filling nozels.
  14. You mean put both fans in? Will they fit? Of course this is all future speculation since I now have to find a different parts rig.
  15. I don't, but give me a couple of days and I can get some. Too sick today to go out in the rainstorm we're having.
  16. also, does it matter that my 1992 4.0 doesn't have the electric fan? I have the old style mechanical one that spins all the time.
  17. There are markings on the speedo gear case that tell you how to align it in the transfer case depending on the number of teeth your speedometer gear has. There are three different settings. If you took it out recently, you may just have to rotate it to the correct position
  18. what is the 1st year of the r134?
  19. does a 1991 have the r134? I'm considering buying a cheap messed up limited from a friend for skid plates, a/c, and leather seats with lumbar adjustment.
  20. I just put a 242 in my comanche (Was a 2wd) and it doesn't have the vaccuum lines either. So I got a vaccuum switch from an old full size wagoneer, took all the unnecessary stuff off of it, put a knob I had laying around and ran the lines to the dash. Now I can manually activate and deactivate the cad and have 2wd low also. Used new lines from the hardware store. Also got creative and added a light to light up when it is engaged.
  21. these aren't adjustable are they?
  22. O.k. ran into a new problem. Took the comanche out for its first lengthy test drive. For awhile it drove and shifted just fine. Then I went parked with it idling for a few minutes in neutral and it would no longer shift into gear. Killed the engine and can shift just fine. Turn it on and can't shift again. I was able to drive home in 2nd (Lots of start and stop). The idle stays about where it normally is when I'm stopped and the clutch pedal is in. engagement seems to be at the very bottom of the pedal travel. Any ideas? Could I have missed a timy bit of air when bleeding the system?
  23. Thanks for the help, turned out the master cylinder conked out. Apparently it was close and all the work finished it. As bad as it was to waste two days on this, at least I had an important part break while in my garage instead of on a trail.
  24. The clutch was a little weak figured needed a new clutch and it was significantly thinner. Maybe your right and the new parts finished off the master cylinder. I guess I'm off to the parts store. Really don't want to take it all apart again.
  25. all was working just fine two weeks ago when I took everything apart to put in the 4x4 tranny and new clutch. Beginning to wonder if i damaged the master cylinder.
