Can Spell Comanche (2/11)

Ok, just so we start off on the same page I have a 90 MJ with AX15. My main annoyance is the relative positions of the clutch, brake, and gas pedals. As they sit right now, the brake and gas pedals are too close together for my son who has wide feet to really drive the truck. Even I have to use the outside of my right foot to use the accelerator. What I can't tell is if somehow the pedal position is wrong or if during some floor pan repair and eventual replacement of the vinyl flooring and padding that the space between the gas pedal and the tranny well shrank. Anybody got ideas? If I can't figure out how to make more space between the gas pedal and the tranny well I will have to get rid of her since it will be my son's DD. If he can't get his foot in there (and importantly out of there and to the brake quickly!) then I don't think I have much choice. I have pulled up the flooring and I can't see anything in the way, but I don't know. Anyone come across anything similar? Got any suggestions or ideas? We absolutely love this truck and have fixed all the problems on her. It would really blow to have to quit now.

Anybody planning to attend Jeepskool (Jeepskool.com) on July 3? I am planning to be out there in the MJ after clanking some rocks at Lost Valley last weekend.

Oil pressure gauge

Yep. Wasn't sure if it was an adjustable thing, a pop the needle and reposition (which is what I did and broke it) thing, or something else. -

No the factory gauge was reading less than zero. It was hovering around the 7 o'clock position and occasionally going up to 9 o'clock when I reved. The range on the gauge that actually has numbers is from about 10 to 2. So the gauge dial would move what I perceive to be the correct amount but was not pointing in the right place. -

Hooked up mechanical gauge and got between 25-35 psi at idle which jumped up to around 45 when I reved the engine. I guess I am working on a gauge fix or a cluster change out. At least I don't have an oil pressure problem. -

I understood Eagle's point and will be checking. I think the truck is okay since it runs well and the idiot light version was not illuminated prior to the cluster change. My plan tonight is to do the actual check to see. -
Gauges from '89 XJ no worky in my MJ
alex_and_sean replied to terrawombat's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I am having exactly the same issue with my oil pressure gauge. The rest work fine. As I posted up in a separate thread about an hour ago I attempted to adjust my low oil pressure gauge and broke the dang thing off. Now may have to go new cluster. Might try some sort of epoxy or jb weld solution before I go new cluster. Tried superglue but it didn't work. Keep me posted on what you end up doing and I will do the same. -
Oil pressure gauge

The gauge reading was always way below 40 (like between the 7 and 10 o'clock positions) and never got that high, though the range of motion vs engine speed seemed reasonable and the gauge moved the correct way during start up. Thus, silly me I was going to "adjust" it. Maybe the gauge is/was bad to begin with. Guess I am in the hunt for a new gauge cluster. Thanks Eagle -
91 MJ 4.0L 5-speed owners...Please read

I have a 90 configured this way but can't see what you are looking for. Is the 90 set up differently or am I being dense? Based on the day I have had I am expecting the latter. If the 90 and 91 should be similar tell me again what I am looking for and I will look again. -
Ok, I hereby confirm I am an idiot. Did the gauge cluster swap and finally got around to doing the sender unit change outs. Swapped in oil pressure send unit and gauge moved but was always less than 40 but moved about the right amount. Tried a different sending unit with the same result. So, I decided that a gauge adjustment of some sort was needed. Took dash apart and was messing with the gauge and the dial broke off. So now I have two problems. Not sure I can fix this or not. Can I get a new oil pressure gauge? Maybe pull it from a cluster at the junk yard? Or do I need to do the gauge swap all over again? Did try a half-a$$ed attempt to super glue the dial back on which to me confirmed I was definitely in idiot country at which point I stopped and came in for some beer. Got any ideas?

97 XJ Front End Conversion Pics
alex_and_sean replied to comanche09's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I too had a question on the striker. I just did a door swap for my 90 MJ with an 95XJ. The rear part of the doors line up fine but the front is a little proud and the crease line is a little low. That is, for proper overall appearance, the front of the door should go inboard about 1/4" and up about a 1/4". I noticed this on both sides. I played with shims at the hinges until I got tired of it and then said, it closes and is water tight and that is good enough for now. Would really rather make it look nicer if possible. Got suggestions? Also, your paint looks nice. How did you paint it? I noticed you mentioned the paint but not the system you used. thanks -
If one of them is in good shape, I might be interested for the right price. Mine is okay but not too bad .... some dents but rusting out at the base which blows.

I changed out my fog/driving lights and now they don't come on and the light on the switch in the cab doesn't come on either. Thought I might have a bad relay and swapped what I think is the right one but no dice. Could the switch have gone bad? What else should I check? Can't imagine what I did in the simple swap out but they don't work anymore. Feel like a total dolt too! :wall:

Anybody know where I can get an e-brake pedal return spring? Mine doesn't return far enough for the brake light to go out. I googled but didn't find anything that seemed to match up. Thanks
