  1. O yea? Theres a reason I have been lurking on here for months before I actually joined, gotta learn from others experiances/mistakes :D The trailer idea isnt going to happen. The bed was trashed when I got it, mostly rusted out, way too much bondo from somebody trying to fix it the wrong way, and its got several good dings that won't pull out. So I figured I would cut my losses ;) Its going to be truggified with the stroker motor and tranny from my XJ as well as the hp Dana 44 up front thats cut down to waggy width and a Ford 9" cut down to match the front 44. Also I am going to stuff a Stak 3 speed in it with a flat belly skid. I was going to reuse the 8.8 I had, but I sheared all the ring gear bolts off and blew up the ARB. Should be done in a month or so cause if not, I'm going to be walking to Cincinnati instead of driving. I will be moving there in September. AARON
  2. Hehehehe I love doing body work with a Sawzall :D AARON
  3. Have a good local 4x4 shop you can call? I always try and support the local guys. If not, give Randys ring and pinion a call for a Yukon factory replacement shaft. AARON
  4. That hole is suposed to be there. I have torn down and built lots of Jeep 4.0L motors and every single one had that there. Its to let oil down into the timing chain. I removed the flashing from the casting and opened up the hole and my motor is still running strong. I also opened up and cleaned out the block flashing in the head and block so that oil drains back down from the top of the head into the oil pan. The stroker motor in my Cherokee works great and I have had absolutly no issues with it. AARON
  5. So how much more are we talking over a Megasquirt? Are you comparing this to the older mega unit or the newer 3x version? Cause I see nothing wrong with the newer version and its super cheap compared to the Accel DFI unit that Hesco sells for $1600. AARON
  6. http://www.highcountryatv.com/ Its located in Mountain City, TN. Take 321 into Boone, then jump onto 421 into Mtn City, then you make a right at the gas station and fast food joint, then follow the signs from there. Check out www.nc4x4.com under upcoming or past events for pictures and people heading out there riding. You can also find maps and direcitons too. AARON
  7. Are you good with wiring and know how to solder? Get a Megasquirt. Fully adjustable home made ECU and its $250. I plan on getting one eventually, just a matter of time and money. AARON
  8. That would work out very nice. A friend of mine has 3/8 on his skid and after 2 years its very torn up and just about done. With 1/2 you should be just fine, but be sure to use lots of bolts to hold it on otherwise it will rip or distort when you land an unsecured section on a rock. I think I am going to shoot for a 106" wheel base. I rode with a friend this past weekend who has a 103" wb and he totally got denied on the waterfall at Callalantee where my other friend walked up it in his buggy with a 105" wb and this other random guy hardly tried and made it up with a 113"wb. AARON
  9. If your paying $250 for a sheet of UHMW, then you are paying too much. I used to buy it for work for around $100 to $150 for a 1/4" sheet. I guess the price varied due to the bulk orders we do as well as the fact that it was a company doing the buying. What thickness do you plan on running? I wouldnt recommend the 1/4, stick with at least 3/8 otherwise it won't last. AARON
  10. Get a local shop to build the shaft. Just tell the local shop EXACTLY what vehicle it will be going in and what its intended use will be and they will set you up with a shaft just like the high doller "big name" comanies and you won't have to pay for shipping. AARON
  11. I plan on kicking the front axle out an inch or two. I still need to have room for the track bar and drag link. The D44 under my XJ is moved foward from the stock position about 1.5" with the coil buckets centered over the axle compared to over the front like the D30. It cleared with a fair amount of room, but I think I can get some more out of it with the new suspension. As for an adjustable wheelbase...not so much :D I don't want a fat heavy pig, plus it will still see highway speeds. Thanks guys, AARON
  12. What wheelbase would you run with a back halfed tubed out MJ with a 4 link? Do I keep the 113 stock wb or shorten it up to say 106 or so? I just picked up a '91 MJ short bed to replace my current XJ. The drivetrain from the XJ will be going into the MJ. 4.6L stroker, AX-15, Stak 3 speed monster box, HP Dana 44 front narrowed to waggy width, and a Ford 8.8 in the rear. Current tires are 35s with 36s or 37s in the future. The rig wheels mostly east coast meaning slick wet muddy rocks and rock ledges needing wheel speed but I would like to eventually head out west with it. Thanks, AARON
