  3. I'm considering buying two 'Manches. 86 is a XLS (I think I have that right), with 2.5, AX5, NP207, 4x4, longbed. It has a shell on it and a sunroof, but also has rust issues above the bed wheelwells, the drivers door has a rust perforation and the tailgate has rust perforation. Interior isn't bad, but should clean up some. Truck is supposed to run with a new battery, but needs a windshield and new brakes. 87 is base shortbed with 2.5, AX4 and bedliner. No Power steering even, I think air in the tires was even an option... Body is MOSTLY straight, paint is faded, it wears a later tailgate since the tailgate says 4.0. The right front fender in front of the door is mangled along with the leading edge of the door. 87 doesn't run and hasn't since it was put in storage years ago. Don't know why it doesn't run at this time. Interior is in better shape than the 86, not a time capsule, but not too bad. Both trucks are grey, both trucks have mismatched wheels and both need tires... Whats worse is, I knowwhere there is an 88 I could probably get cheap too... With three MJs, I could be like Pete!!!

  5. I've found other brand service manuals online, is there a good resource for the Comanche and other AMC products? Someplace I could maybe download an entire FSM?

    Ranger mods

    My 90 Ranger has a 2.3 and 5 speed, a 6" lift but 31s... I was getting about 27 MPG for my 100 mile roundtrip commute when I used it. That included a mountain pass.

  12. First post on this forum... I have been through this build a couple times, and really like it a lot. :cheers: Inspired me to go down the street to a neighbor that has a 86 'Manche X. It has rust issues in the body, not sure about the floor. Bedsides are shot, drivers door is shot and the tailgate is in really bad shape. Other than rust, things are straight. It has the 2.5 and a 5 speed (AX5 or T5, not sure) and 4.10s in the 30/35s. needs brakes, battery and a windshield, but is claimed to start and run good. I can get it for less than $200 probably. :wrench: So I'm thinking I want to build a bed like yours, but maybe shorten the wheelbase to a bit longer than a XJ, and coil spring the rear. Leave just enough rear frame so I can hang mudflaps for 35"ers, since I want to keep it street legal here in Utah. :wavey: I want a shorter truck, as my ZJ is about as long as I want to hit local trails with. I hate doing two and three point turns on switchbacks! Since this truck is so rusty, I wouldn't feel bad about tearing it up some... Hmmm, how soilid is that NP207?
