  1. Short funny story: My son bought a Comanche about 4 months back, and while going through it, came across the owner's manual in the glove box. While flipping through the pages, out falls an appointment card from one of the PO,s from a mental health clinic. How appropriate! :rotf:
  2. Thanks Wildman. Most helpful. And yes, the MJ is an '87, The XJ is a '90.
  3. After much investigation and testing on my electrical problems, I have come to the unhappy conclusion that my fuse block is not realistically salvageable. I have one in my parts Cherokee that is nearly pristine. My question is... I know there is no easy way to perform this transplant, but what is the least painful way to accomplish this? I know some of you guys on here have done this before. May I impose upon you for your experienced guidance? All help greatly appreciated. Jeephack
  4. Thanks. That's what I thought but I wanted confirmation.
  5. After getting all of the lights functioning properly, I decided to work on a couple of small electrical problem under the dash. After pulling things apart, I have a question that I have never thought much about before. You guys probably know instinctively, but it is something that I have never given any thought to. With the electrical connectors disconnected from the cluster, should all the gauges be at zero, or do they just stop at an arbitrary position? The reason I ask is, with the gauge cluster lying on the front seat, I am running at about 150 degrees on the temp. gauge, I have 20 psi oil pressure, and 1/2 tank of fuel. Is this normal?
  6. "Eagle" Check the fuse panel. The headlights use the built-in circuit breaker in the switch, but IIRC the parking lights are fused on the panel. If the fuses look good, get a test light or multimeter, turn the light switch to parking lights, connect the negative probe to a known good ground and check to verify that you have power to the socket (or not) The fuse was good and I had 12 volts to the panel, but upon further inspection, the spring clip on one end of the parking light fuse block had been spread apart and wasn't making contact with the fuse. A little tightening up of the clip, and I now have parking lights and tail lights!!! Thanks for heading me in the right direction Eagle!!!
  7. I have signal lights and headlights, but no parking lights front or back, nor any tail lights. It wasn't the switch. Just got through replacing it. I do believe there has been a trailer light pigtail hacked into the wiring. Guess I'll start disecting that next. Thanks for your responses guys!
  8. I'm finally able to get back on this lighting problem again. I have gone through all the bulbs, replaced all the fuses, the ground behind the drivers side tail light is o.k., and the connector in front of the gas tank is in fine shape. Seeing as I have brake lights, turn signals, emergency flashers and headlights, but no parking lights or tail lights, is a bad light switch itself out of the realm of possibility?
  9. KROIL is a favorite but its not in a spray can. CW, Down here in Nawth Carolina, KROIL is availabe in spray cans. Good stuff. My favorite at the present time is SeaFoam Deep Creep. Awhile back, during some air intake work on my daughter's XJ, I inadvertently positioned the intake hose in such a manner that the top of the throttle cable just barely touched the hose. This led to some intermittent throttle sticking. Felt like such an idiot when I finally found the problem. This probably isn't the problem in this case, as this was a HO, but check closely for obstructions along the throttle cable.
  10. The ground is O.K. Pulled it apart and cleaned and secured it already. I'll have to see if I can locate that plug, if I can slide my old fat arse under there. Thanks!
  11. Trying to run down a problem I'm having with my son's "new" $300 Comanche. The headlights, turn signals, and brake lights work, but I can't get the taillights, parking lights, or backup lights to come on. We have checked and replaced all the bulbs, been through the fuses and cleaned the ground behind the driver's side taillight. All to no avail. I might add that We're replacing a fender and the header panel, and while I had good access to the wiring, I swapped the headlight harness from the donor Cherokee. The wiring for the fog lamps was already on that one and I figured that if he ever wants to add fog lamps, the wiring will already be there. But I don't see how that could possibly be part of the problem since that is only one plug, and the headlights and turn signals work properly. Any suggestions will be thoroughly investigated and greatly appreciated!
  12. Could be the neutral start switch not adjusted properly.
  13. First car--1959 ford custom. 292 V-8, 3 speed on the column. That thing was a tank!! Car I wish that I still had the most---1970 MachI Mustang.
  14. Well---not being one to let well enough alone for very long, I have created another problem that maybe you guys can help me with. Been reading about bored out throttle bodies, and since I had a spare one lying around, I thought I'd give it a try. Bored it out to 60mm. Cut a new throttle plate. (16 ga. polished stainless!) Everything went back together fine. Bolted it on the 'Manche and now it idles at around 3000 rpm. Are there adjustments that have to be made for the larger throttle body opening? I must make this thing work!! It sounds and feels awesome when you punch the throttle!!! Jeephack
  15. Just a quick update and many thanks to Eagle for pointing an old dog back to simple basics. Though the throttle cable in the engine compartment was fine, once I traced it back into the cab and under the dashboard, I found that one of the electrical harnesses had migrated south and was lying across the cable preventing it from fully retracting. Once the wayward harness was relocated, the truck idles just fine. :D Thanks again, Jeephack
  16. I know that this has been discussed numerous times before, and I have tried to read all of the posts on this that I could find. I have a '87, 4 litre, 5 speed. I cannot get it to idle properly. I have checked all of the vacuum lines for leaks. Everything seems sound. I have changed the map sensor, cleaned the throttle body, even changed throttle bodies. Have checked the TPS. 4.98 volts at the harness connector. TPS is set at .82 volts at closed throttle. Will increase in voltage to 4.96 volts at WOT. When I start the vehicle...3000 rpm. Occacionally it will idle properly when it is cold. Once it warms up... 2500 -3000 rpm. Sometimes, I can punch the accelerator and the rpm's will drop. Any ideas?? Jeephack
  17. This intrigues and also puzzles me. I did the swap about a year ago, except in the other direction. I swapped the entire engine (89 renix) into a 93 XJ. The intake and exhaust manifolds both bolted in with no problems or modifications. Also swapped the HO valve cover onto the '89 so that the hoses would fit without modification. Jeep's been running great for over a year now. It's my son's DD. What gives??? Maybe I just got lucky!!! Jeephack
  18. I have 2 of these (1 auto, and 1 Manual), and in both cases one goes to the MAP sensor, and the other one is just plugged off.
  19. The small black vacuum line ends up at the vacuum cannister mounted behind the passenger side front bumper.

    Ga. Jeep??

Try not to be too rough on an old guy. I've been dragged into this technological age feet first, kicking and screaming> :hateputers:

    Ga. Jeep??

I'm in eastern N.C. I was just wondering if this Jeep might have come out of Ga. originally.

    Ga. Jeep??

Good evening everyone. I have seen posts from a couple of guys from Ga. on here, so I thought I'd ask... A couple of months ago, I bought a 87 Comanche off a salvage yard here in eastern N.C. It has a black diamondplate rear step bumper with "Jasper Jeep Sales Jasper Ga." etched across the back face of the bumper. Anyone familiar with this place? Jeephack
  23. Greetings everyone. I'm new here though I have been viewing for a couple of months. I have been wondering, what is involved, and how big a PITA is a dashboard swap? I have a '87 MJ, 4.0, 5 speed and a '90 XJ donor vehicle. I have already swapped out the gauge cluster but now I've decided that I want to swap the complete dashboard. All advice is greatly appreciated. Jeephack
