  1. Luckily I haven't ran out of the cheap DIY stuff yet  Having an old parts XJ has really helped, and finding a set of TSL Radials for $50 didn't hurt
  2. I could rotate the pinion up to near 0º which would give me less angle at the slipyoke ujoint, but that's not proper geometry for that type of shaft. Both angles are to be as nearly equal as possible to cancel out vibes. I also read that running a ujoint at 0º will burn it up prematurely as they need a slight bit of angle in order for the needle bearings to rotate. I'm sure yours will be fine being a little off from 0º, especially when the springs wrap up. Thanks for letting me know how yours was setup.
  3. 9" rear end? Were you able to reuse the stock rear driveshaft? What's your ujoint angles? My rear shaft is a little short (about 2"-3") with the SOA and switching to the shorter pinion 8.25 axle. With the pinion and TC output parallel each ujoint angle appears to be 14º, hopefully it's acceptable. From my research, less than half the ujoint's max operating angle (30º for a 1310 serries) is preferred.
  4. What's everybody running for rear springs? I'm going SOA in the rear and am considering removing the thick overload leaf in favor of a full length leaf from another springset. Looking for more articulation and maybe a better ride, also be nice to give the main leaf a little more support.
  5. Thanks. Yours looks a lot like my '88. I've got the D35 out and the 8.25 ready to go in, the rear will be easy as I can easily relocate the bottom mount. Boy was I glad to see the MJ didn't use barpins in the rear for the upper shock mount, has the stud like the YJ.
  6. Anbody know a factory brake line that will work for the front and rear of an MJ with 6" of lift? I don't care what it's for, as long as they bolt up. Also looking for any stock shock setups that would work also, going the cheap parts store route.
  7. Here's my '88 4.0L 4wd auto shortbed. I'm real happy I found it with this setup, along with the bucket seats and sunroof. It's got over 212K on the ticker and runs strong. Putting about 6" of lift on over the next few days, with 32" TSL Radials for now. Hopefully I'll have an 'after' pic soon.
  8. Got a link, Bob? I know, I'm lazy
  9. Use a rear D44 from an early '90s Isuzu Amigo, it's disc brakes and same 6-lug wheel pattern as the Waggy front.
  10. Anybody seen this good reference for the AW4? http://www.transonline.com/transdigest/ ... index.html
  11. I just picked up some 17" LCA's so I'm ready to put on the 5.5" coils and install the 8.25 with the SOA. Glad to hear somebody else's is riding pretty level with a similar setup, I had just been guesstimating on the ride height.
  12. Great job, looks like a lot of fun.
  13. Along a similar line, anybody know how tough it would be to mount an XJ receiver on a MJ?
  14. I've used it many times as our club's forum is the same software. You'll have to pull up that user's profile and change the username and password, then email the new password to the user.
  15. I'm impressed. Can't wait to get mine to that point.
  16. Any site admin can go to the admin panel and click on Management under 'User Management'. Then enter the username and the users profile will pop up. Then change the username and hit 'submit'. The user will then need to know it's been changed (generally via email) in order to successfully log in the next time.
  17. I see several a week up here in IL, mostly 2wd and in pretty decent condition.
  18. My YJ's had front and rear Lincoln Lockers for a few years now, even driven on the road weekly. no problems. Thanks for the replies, I'll let you know how it works out.
  19. It's from an XJ that I parted out, so why not? It'll suffice for what I need it to do. May even install a Lincoln Locker, haven't decided
  20. Anybody ever use or see an 8.25 rear in a Comanche? I plan on installing one soon, SOA, in my '88. I know there's better axles out there, but hey, I have it on hand, it's the righ gear ratio, and it's better than the D35 that's in there now. Just wondering how common of a swap it is, if at all.
  21. Surely you can come up with something more creative than 'Newbie' as the first rank  I wouldn't recommend anything remotely derogatory.
  22. I'm going to build longer lower control arms to get the stock caster setting, and to get the wheelbase back out to where it should be. Hopefully I can get away with stock uppers, if not, I'll build some of those also. I'm mainly looking for experience with tirejacking or other negative side-effects of having this tall a spring on a shortarm setup. Will 33"s fit with 5.5" of lift, or will trimming be needed? Or should I stick with 32"?
  23. I've got a set of 5.5" coils to soon go into my '88 MJ, anybody else go this high without going to a longarm setup? I won't be using any drop brackets, just longer LCA's and, if I can get away with it, stock UCA's. The rear will be SOA so hopefully it will sit level. Any opinions welcome. Thanks.
