hate to ask but if i fried it, how much is a TPS and whats the part number?
-
TB i assume means throttle body, and no i removed the hose thing above it, scrubbed the plate then wham high idle... TPS? aren't those the reports Peter had to fill out in office space? other than that i have no idea what a TPS is... and Oxygen sensor safe cleaner? i dunno it was throttle, carb, and something cleaner... As for hoses the only one I removed was the big one over the throttle body, other than that I didn't remove anything.
-
Hey y'all I cleaned my throttle plate with throttle cleaner, and then I got a high idle at 2, so I checked my vac lines and not a one seems to be leaking. I thought it might be the IAC but after i replaced it, it went down when it first starts to a idle of 1.5 but then after running for awhile goes back up to a 2 when idling, what could be the problem? there another thing that could be screwing up?
-
no body really answers the one main question, how hard is it to install another rod? as for the rod, couple bucks eh? pm me with details
-
so i can't just replace the rod? it only sheered right where the screw base of the knob goes (so i can't screw the new knob on there) it'll still shift its just shorter, and i don't know what transmission is in the '88 i know its a five speed...
-
hey yall remember my post a short while ago looking for a shifter knob? well i got one from that guy and when i went to take the old knob off, it sheered the shifter rod clean off at the screw base!! so my question is two fold, how hard is it to replace the shifter rod? and is anyone parting out a manual mj/xj with a rod that'll work? i need one now...

when did you buy that radiator? the picture shows one without a bung, do i request a bung? or order for my year or for the newer year?
-
Yeah MiNi Beast, who makes that radiator?
-
eagle posted that it wasn't GDI (Go Dan Industries) but there IS a radiator out there that has the bung for the auxilary fan temp sensor and it is an open system radiator, anyone know where to find one?
-
whats it look like whats the part number? link? whats pete talking about in http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/view ... hp?t=10145 this thread? sounds like he converted to an 'open' system without converting to an open system? pete whatcha talking about?
-
theres threads about converting closed to open without changing the radiator? where? any links? i can't seem to find them.
-
well foolish me...didn't check to see why I'm heating up so much....I uh....flushed the radiator and water flows through it nicely, its the thermostat that needs replacing, least i think so ill check it later today, in any case no i didnt buy the radiator yet, thank god, but yall are a big help for even foolish people like me.
-
could i run a jumper on the ecu plug to where the fan runs all the time when i start the truck up? i don't think it would harm anything the alternator would generate enough power to keep the fan going constantly, then it would remain super cool.
-
sounds like if i got the t-stat housing from a 91 or newer jeep, and some wire (while I'm at the junk yard why not) i can solve it?
-
hey yall, just posted a short while back on what i need to do to install an open cooling system. well i seem to have run into a wee bit of a problem. here's what was connected to my fan. here's what was connected to the radiator sensor, its near the fender well. here's the plug on the end of the radiator. and here's the radiator with a sensor. here's the questions i have, is this inportaint? is it for the electric fan? why does my dads have his running straight from fan to thermostat? what will happen when i get a 91+ new radiator (open system) do i need to reroute this plug? can i install it on the radiator? seems like the three core my dad has replaced his with, you can't so i need someone with mechanical knowledge.

closed to open cooling system
Maveric replied to Maveric's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
so a trip to the junk yard is in order? for the overflow bottle/heater hoses? and skip the heater control value? this is all quite new to me, this being my first car, so bare with me, so i need to do what? i guess i could get heater hoses from an auto parts store, and whats the coil that id have to move near the bottle for the 91+ overflow bottle to work? -
closed to open cooling system
Maveric replied to Maveric's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
part one 91 or newer radiator for open system, part two over flow bottle from a 91 or newer, i got an electric fan already do i need to mess with that? it never seems to come on, and i have no AC :dunno: do i need a new water pump? i think this one still works, just think my radiator is clogged up, so all in all 1) 91 open system radiator 2) 91 over flow bottle (have to move coil?? what coil?) what else? thanks for the help so far guys, i hope to get this fixed soon, i got to move my girl down here and thats a nice 500 mile round trip fully loaded 250 of it, and its mostly nothing between there and here, id hate to get stuck and its my only vehicle. Jeep on Y'all -
how do you convert a closed radiator/cooling system from a 1988 comanche to an open system like my dads 91 cherokee? how hard is it? got to replace my radiator anyway its heating up but radiator is cold as ice, tried flushing and everything, nothing else is working, figured now would be a good time for a project of this kind, what parts will i need? how hard is it to do? please any info would be greatly appriciated, i need help guys! step by step instructions as I'm not familiar with the system. thanks in advance for all your help, lets keep one more comanche on the road y'all!

it still have the seats? what color are they? I'm assuming its buckets...if its got 'em how much you want for 'em i'm in san antonio, so shipping wouldnt be too bad, if not just picking them up. eh eh?

and I'm not talking about the swimwear. I noticed on another thread that you can change the cluster to a white backround, now is there a way i can change it to a black backround that reads up to 120....and perhaps get the gear for that to read accurately? as yall know i got a stock 88 mj, and with the ever so slightly "over sized" tires my speedometer is inaccurate past 55 miles an hour to about 5 miles so at 55 i equal out to 58-60 aproximately so I'm wondering if its possible to change the cluster to read 120 and to change the i guess transmission gear out so it will read correctly, any help is appriciated
-
another jeep i found, if yall want to see what my jeep looked like nearly new (except for the lack of camper window, and gold striping) theres a blue comanche in the movie 'absolute power' in the outdoor cafe scene in the backround you see it twice. looks like my jeep new! :D at least new for 96, anyway its cool to see a blue jeep similar to mine.

Was flipping through the channels tonight, and on HBO theres a movie called "the big bounce" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0315824/ and I shouted out "hey a comanche!" at the truck one of them was driving. it looks like a later one from the early 90's but i can't tell, all the emblems and decals are gone, and they replaced the tailgate with something off of a ford? thought i'd point it out, anyone know who owns it? owned it? or any other movies that you can spot comanches in? ironically jeep comanches are appearing in movies made in 2004, 12 years since the last one was made... mmm i still love that truck... jeep on fellow comanchians!

Finding right Axel at the JY
Maveric replied to MJCanadian's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
not that he needs it, but if he was going to upgrade to a new dana, why not get the dana 44? that can't be hard to put in right? after all its a jeep rear end it should bolt in, although i don't know what jeeps would have them, grand cherokees perhaps? although i think those are aluminum  perhaps a wrangler would have one, not sure never put much thought into it till last night. and that is when I'm told to upgrade to an 8.8 (and i being almost mechianically incompitent, thats what i get for never learning) y'all should know more about this then me, thats just my two cents. -
'Big Ton'/'Metric Tonne' Conversion
Maveric replied to Maveric's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
ah d35s then, bummer, as for the rest of it? transmission, transfer case? (should tell my dad to upgrade his xj to 44's cause even he's got the 35's) and whats this about 8.8s? I'm trying to 'restore' it, essentially keeping it factory (factory upgrades not a prob even if it didnt come on it, its the oddball stuff from other cars), which is why i ask on these 8.8s, although they could be good in itself (i guess) Edit: and what are "c-clips"? and is there a difference between the bolt patterns on the pukegoat and the asin? *comancheclub.com where even if you don't have a catchy slogan at the end, you're too late to realize you're done reading it anyway* -
'Big Ton'/'Metric Tonne' Conversion
Maveric replied to Maveric's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
so how can i tell what i have in it? its all factory i know that (the guy i bought it from was original owner, and although a mechanic, wasn't a guy to upgrade) i think i got the cheaper dana rear the 35? can't tell the diff between 35 vs 44 from an outside visual, although i could allways climb under it if i knew what i was looking for, same with the transmission...and transfer case... what exactly was put on the olympic pioneer mj? as for the other texans with mj's :beerhead: YEE HAA! let me buy all you Texans a shiner, or a lonestar. It would be nice to be tutored on how to fix up my mj, after all this is my first truck, and the only other car i semi-worked on was a 85 audi 4000 s (thank you metric and expensive parts) and i got rid of that because it was falling apart rather rapidly. id rather fix up my mj and keep it as long as i can (can't say for life cause it could go boom) but i have been addicted to mj's since i drove my dad's 91 xj and wanted a truck version (little did i know at the time that they made one) anyway ill shut up now, been rambling too long... so yeah need parts, need to be tutored... *Comancheclub.com where you can ramble on and on, and at least someones listening*
