iv had to zj's 1 4.0 with 269,000kms and 1 5.2 with 218,000kms both had 42re tranny's and not once did they skip a beat and i have a heavy foot and am hard on my jeeps alot of reverse to drive reverse to drive break burns etc lots of durty boring in mud and rocks ... the key to those trannys is keep the filter and fluid clean.. and extend the vent lines ... its usally when u get water in the tranny is when they go bad..... but I'm very very anal when it comes to fluids and makin sure bolts and seals r good .. that might be why iv had such good luck with them

i wonder what shipping would be on it... through canada post... i figured the shipping to the states would be pricey.......or next time i go to town i could stop into UPS .. i live in the woods pretty much lol but go to town acouple times a week so if ur in no huge rush ill probally goin to town in the next couple days pm me ur name and full address and ill see what it will cost??? iv never shipped anythign cross boarder befor just looked to make sure i still have them and its 2 track bars with decent ends and good bushings and 1 upper mount thought i had 2 mounts but might have givin the other one away to a buddy -

HardRox-MJ replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
geeez if u guys were closer i got a good track bar with mount sittin in my basment and another one to .. its no good to me as i have an ajustable rc one .... i wouldnt charge anything for them as they r a dime as dozen around here -
iv all ready got about 6 inches of lift and SOA in the rear... i figure the 8.8 will put my rear up a bit more were the tube is alot biger then the 35 so might have to compansate with a spacer in the front
-
yeah just lookin at it u would think they would be the same ... but yeah if i do swap it out ill cut them off and move them and set my pinion angal and stuff... its just a good deal and hard to say no to $150 for a 8.8 complete drum to drum with 4:11s and a LSD and its will be alot stronger then my d35 with lockrite lol
-
figured i wouldnt be that lucky :hmm: lol ... would have been nice to just pick it up slid it under tighten the ubolts and go lol
-
ok well i think i might swap a 8.8 into the heep ... so my question is its set up for a XJ and was curiouse if the spring pads are the same width apart on a mj as a XJ... i know the shock mounts r way diffrent from a mj to a xj so i wana know if i will have to cut them off and move them over cheers Nick

my buddy has a 98 5.2 with tow package and it came with 4:11's a lsd and a dana 44a but best to swap the 249 t-case for either a 242 or 231.... get a bit better mpgs

i had a 98 gc limited with the 5.2lt and the 42re tranny and d44A rear-end befor i bought my mj a couple months ago..... and i loved it had it lifted 5inches on 33's and i cruelalized that poor jeep and it never skipped a beat... the only thing i will say about the tranny is extend the vent line and keep the fluid clean and u won't have any issues as for the d44a yes they r not great but id rather have that then a dana 35 any day just because of the axel diffreance... and the best thing to do to keep the life of the d44a is to toss a small bottle of friction modifyer in with the gear oil to keep the heat down some... cause they can heat up and spin the pumpkin and nevr jack the back up wiht the jack under the pumpkin cause u can crack it!!! but i would deffintly buy another one in a heart beat... my old one came back up for sale on kijiji and i have been thinkin long and hard about buyin it back just cause it was such a good running jeep probally the best iv ever had and gas mileage wasnt that bad either for what it was

so after the run in new cumberland i wrapped the back bumper around my tail light into my box side so i figured id do a little trimming lots off rott and dough on the box sides just another day in nova sctotia lol ... but this quick fix will get me by till i find another box ... was thinkin a step side ranger box would look kinda cool and be diffrent from what i was reading they will fit the MJ's cause a rust free mj box up here will run u close to $1000 this is one side befor cutting Image Not Found and after i cut the wheel wells and back side of box don't look to bad need to make a brace to keep the box side from flappin in the wind tho

is their a hose like the one in ur pic all ready on ur diff?..... if not on the back top left hand side of ur front diff u will see a whitish peice of plastic thats were ur vent is or could be a vent tube on ur tranny?

a 350 + 36" tires and stock d35 and d30 ur asking for awhole lot of trouble ....ur pushin the limits just with ur 4cyl and stock axels on 36"s..... if u go bigger on ur engine i would be tryin to find ford 3/4 ton axels at the least thats alot of tourque and weaight on those tooth picks axels should be ur next investment

well had the manche out for its first real burn in the woods ... on this wonderfull rainy weekend in nova scotia .... the rain made for the very hard trails to be even harder and lead to lots of carnage to allmost ever rig that was with 3 tie-rods ,1 axel, 1 gas line ,1 upper control arm, 1 blown out tire ,front drive shaft ... ,pinion bearing ,and 2 mufflers this was between the whole group of 6 and the big chev got left in the woods for the night about 10 hours later we made it out of the woods lol here is a vid my buddy made here r some pics my buddy took The start: Off we go, International first: The only Heavy Chevy in the group and it did very good with open diffs: The rock garden on Clearcut: Clearcut Hill: I'm the king of the castle, your the dirty rascal: ;D Alex hungup on a stump: Wildcard Trail: Nathan with his broken tie rod on Wildcard: Chris and Nick assessing the rest of the trail. Chris saying it will only take a half an hr to complete. (Ya Right, he was wrong) Its official, were com pleating the trail so lets go: Darren checking to see if I'm OK, I'm still moving:

Best cnadidate donor for 4X4 swap
HardRox-MJ replied to Timmmmmy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
a mj drive shaft is allmost a foot longer i belive then a xj.......cause the wheel base is alot longer..... find any xj from 93 and up 4x4 5spd to do a 4x4 swap with as u will have better chance of it havin a ax15 5speed tranny a 231 transfer case or a 242 but IMO go with a 231 t-case.. lets talk axels... ur MJ porbally came stock with 4:11's right? ok no 5speed xjs came with 4:11 usally had 3:07's so u will need to buy a ring and pinion set for a hp dana30 to match ur rear gear ratio.......... or u could just swap the rear-end from the xj to the MJ.... its probally got a chry 8.25 in the xj that is about 3 times stronger then the dana 35 that came with mj's..... but the xj's r SOA from the plant so u would needlike a 2" spacer to level out the front if u did that..... but would be cheaper then buyin a ring and pinion ..... and u get the secutiry have havin somthin with some strength in the back.... i don't trust a d35 as far as i could throw it they r junk IMO -
ur shimmy shock aka steering stabalizer goes from the empty boxed mount by ur passenger side coil spring and hooks to ur drag link.......it keeps bump steer down if u have any lose tie-rod ends etc...... but with the steering set up u have u will need a difrent style shock somthin like off a jk i think... i could be wrong... just cause u don't have the whole were the bolt goes through to mount to drag link...... someone eles may wana chime in on this one but u will deffintely want a steering stablizer if u r gunna drive it on the road

comanche axles for a 8.5inch lifted with 36's
HardRox-MJ replied to Bouasman_19's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
x2 on what pete said... or even 1992 and up dodge rams had driver side drops and were coil sprung front so u coulde possibly re use the brackets -
wicked cool manche man... i want to camo mine!..... but from the pics of the front looks like u need a shimmy shock.... but as for the engine u wana rule out the small stuff first... check all ur wires on ur starter make sure they r connected right then check all ur wires on ur altanator... and then start checking all ur fuses and ground wires.... and check under the fuse panel thats under the hood somtimes the wires break off under their .....just food for thought dude
-
well got the KM2's on today... big diffreance in road manners and power the boggers were just to wide out with the old Image Not Found in with the new Image Not Found Image Not Found think my fender flares r a lttle to big now lol gunna have to find some XJ ones to replace the tj's Image Not Found

i have a 231 linkage and have 8.25 29 spline c-clip axels with carrier and side / spider gears but no housing or ring and pinion was my spare stuff..... but I'm in nova scotia canada doubt u would wana pay shipping for all that to NH ..... but if ur interested $50 bucks for it all i just sold a hp dana 30 and chry 8.25 29 spline all complete drum to drum and hub to hub with 4:11 gears for $200 bucks
-
wow!! 39"s on a d30 and d35 he is a brave man!!! I'm surprised axels arnt bustin just sittin there lol.... i would be gettin some 3/4 ton or 1 ton gear for under that if i was gunna run 39's.... but other then that its not in bad shape for the area u r in.... i live in NS and all our uni body jeeps or even full frame jeeps rust out so bad... i had an xj and just gave up and parted it out cause the floor and frame were sooo bad that i flexed it out lost a spring hanger cracked the frame and it twisted the uni-body so bad it snapped my front window lol.... rust is part of life in our areas i envy u southern guys with ur light surface rust lol but nice lookin rig tho... that rustys kit look to be good
