  1. I'm looking at buying a cap for my 89 short bed comanche. I'm looking at one from a 91 dodge dakota short bed but I'm not sure if the bed rail size are the same between the two. Both are 6' beds. Thanks Glenn
  2. It is the transmission cooler line. Glenn
  3. My Comanche does the same thing with the dash lights! Also my wipers have no umpf when the windshield is only parcially wet. Took apart the wiper transmision and cleaned an greased up all the joints, still not the way they should be. I was even going to change out the wiper motor. Can't wait to see if the ground is what's causing the problem. Thanks For The Tip !! Glenn
  4. See some people look at things on the bright side! Thanks Glenn
  5. Well, after work I finally got a chance to open up my differential to see what I got and it was what I usually got for Christmas- Not what I wanted! Just your run of the mill open differential. Oh well that's life I guess. If I can find a dana 44 Trac-lock out of something else would I have to have the ring and pinion set up all over again? Glenn
  6. Well I drove to Ohio today and picked up my dana 44 with the metric ton spring packs! I can't believe how clean it is for being off a 91 Manche. Very little rust on the tubes and the backing plates are almost spotless. Now tomorrow I'll pull the cover and see what's inside once I get finished with the cars and trucks I get payed for fixing. Feels like Chistmas. Hoping there's a posi. in it !! Glad to hear someone got the truck in Florida. Hope it works out for you! Glenn
  7. Thanks for the advise! What is a selectable locker, I've never heard of one. And yes my truck is a daily driver. Some of the places I go during hunting season is pretty rough and steep. Glenn
  8. If the differential turns out to be of the open variety would installing a lunch box type locker in it be a reasonable choice? Glenn
  9. Unfortunatly no ! Pittsburgh to daytona would be quite a haul. Man I wish it was closer! Thanks Thou! Glenn
  10. I'm looking at replacing the D35 thats under my 89 Comanche short bed with a Dana 44 off a 91 Comanche long bed with the metric ton package. It will still have the metric ton springs left on the axle. Does it matter if mine is a short bed as far as the spring length goes ? And does anyone know if the Dana 44 have limited-slip in theses differentials. It came of a 91, 4.0, automatic ? From what I could find out about the 91's it should have 3.55 gears. But there isn't a tag and I haven't taken off the cover. Thanks for any info!! Glenn
  11. A friend of mine gave it to me. He works in maintenance at a place that does work for the government. He brings me leftover fabric that's ends or stuff that they are done using. Glenn
  12. I'm looking to make this truck a 4X4. What should I look for in a cherokee to get me started? My truck is a 2.5 with a 4 speed manual. Would a transfer case off a 4.0 automatic bolt up, or should I just srart looking for a parted out 2.5 4X4. Thanks Glenn
  13. Trying to find some good ideas for the rear bumper build. Thinking about using 4X2 steel tubing laid flat with a top and bottom rail. Top being longer than the bottom, cut on a wedge shape. Swear I saw one like that on here, but can't seem to find it again. Think it was a red MJ. Anybody with ideas would be appreciated! Glenn
  14. The tail lights were pretty hazed up from the sun so what I did was got some fine grit polishing compound and hand rubbed them until they looked real clear. It's easier if they are off the truck that way you can lay them in your lap. It's a lot easier on you shoulders! Buff off the compound. Masking tape the lense part of the light. Take your time and keep a nice sharp edge. Trim with a razor blade. I took a fine grit sandpaper and scuffed up the part I was going to paint and shot a thin coat of primer. When that dried, I sprayed 2 coats of satin black paint. Pretty simple, and they came out like new tail lights! I thought they really added to the back of the truck. Glenn
  15. Had a terrible case of the death wobble! Couldn't get over 45 mph and didn't dare hit a crack in the road. My 15 year old son thought it was the funniest thing he ever saw! He said my cheeks were even shaking. After alignment it, toe was out pretty bad, it was better but after hitting a bump it would get squirrelly again. Well after doing a little detective work I found out some dummy forgot to tighten the stabilizer shock to the frame. :dunno: Oh well if that's the worst thing I do in this project I'll feel lucky. Death wobble is ALL gone and I can go 65mph and my son can quit asking to go for a ride! Glenn
  16. Got a chance to get the truck back in the shop today and it still had the axle tag on it. After doing a little cleaning with glass bead I could just make out 3.55. Dang I was hopeing for 4.10. Oh well, get to go searching! Maybe I'll find something good! Got to think possitive, right? GLENN
  17. Your right I didn't mean the D44, I ment to say that the 5 speed had the 4.10 gears and that the 4 speed behind the 2.5 ltr. had 3.55. Could be wrong about this also, but that's how I think it ran. Glenn
  18. I thought that the D44 axle was in the 2.5 with the 5 speed tranny. I got the 4 speed. Don't know for sure. Glenn
  19. Thanks Shelby, a friend of mine is a mechanic at a sewing factory that does products for the government. The interior was left overs that he gave me a couple years ago. Stuff is tough as nails. You can barely cut it with a razor. And it matched the interior so thats what I had to use! Glenn
  20. Thanks guys, guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend!! Glenn
  21. On the clear I used krylon satin clear, then hand buffed it with a polishing compound. There is a bunch of stuff that I never thought to take pictures of. All of the window moldings and rubber that the sun hit was hard as a rock and cracked. The mirrors were the little flag type on the sides of the doors. Our local you pick it was a great place to get all kinds of odds and ends! The electric push fan that I installed didn't work as well as I thought it would, so I found a 94 Ford Tempo 2.3, that I massaged into a perfect fit. It's amazing what you can come up with when you don't have much money! All of the interior plastic got painted, except for the dash pieces. I did a gauge swap. Mine just had the gas gauge and speedo. All the hoses were replaced, along with the rad., water pump, thermostat, belt, both idler pulleys, and flushed cooling system. We have a radiator shop also, so this is what I do for a living. The funny thing about this project is after almost 30 years of working on cars and trucks I learned so much from this site about little things I've never thought of doing before! I have NEVER walked around a salvage yard at 8:00am looking for ANYTHING in my life. Didn't think I ever would! Now the people know my name. So a lot of this little project is directly because of the great people on this site that are willing to share their ideas and knowledge to others. I really appreciate it, Thanks all of you guys!
