  1. I threw the basics in, then hit the boards. Ill fix that up in due time, like I am with my 'manche
  2. is your manches odometer in kilometers? how in the world did it end up in our neck of the woods? I'm a proud Canadian, Oiz. :) Livin' it up 5+ hours east of Detroit, exc ept on the other side of the border.
  3. Nice job. I got a beauty without a floor that was mechanicaly mint con'd for $500. Pete, it was acctually the 5th owner that I bought it from. Get this, the former ownership statements read as little old ladies owning it. It has been in estate sales 3 times, then to Trenton Key and Glass as a delivery, then to Quinte Pest COntrol. Now its Robbie's DD. Its got a 293 000 km's on the clock. Averages to around 22 thousand a year :)
  4. 2 complete XJ's. 4x4, 5spds. One has a D44. Running but needs a LOT of bodywork. Both under $400 near me. Its insane.
  5. I have the 2.5L in my 'manche. Does that affect it? I grabbed the pump, removed the idler tonite, bolted the pump on and slipped the stock belt back on with no problems, the engine has no oil and gas at the moment so I didn't start it. seemed to fit.
  6. I'm the same. First vehicle, first Jeep. The PO stood in the driveway with a tear in his eye, staring longingly at what was his MJ. My MJ was built May '89, I was born Aug '89 :)
  7. ugh, the o2 sensor in my MJ makes it belch flames from the tailpipe. Hi-Ho,Hi-Ho, its off the JY we go!
  8. what do I need? Ive got access to all my parts cheap. Instructions, advice, tips and what parts are needed please!
  9. I love mine.'89 2.5L 4spd
  10. Thanks man. I found mine, looks like yours but nicely rusted :P
  11. Cabs anOiz, you've helped greatly. My floor is practically gone, as was my ebrake cable and casing. rotted right away.
  12. How many cables are there on a '89? I need to replace 'em but have no clue where to begin.
  13. JohnQ, Ive got a set but I ain't willing to part with 'em. :) The cover of my '89 had a but of gunk. Nothing a pressure washer and some varsol didn't help. Oddly it was just the cover, rockers and everything were nice and clean, just oily :P
  14. Drums are trashed, wheel cylinder is in tip-top shape, hardware is ok, front end needs rotors, calipers, pads and the rubber lines in the front. its in really good cond't for sitting in a garage for 6 months.
  15. I've got a D44 waiting for me at a friends farm, I just need this thing to be roadworthy to get me around all winter, as soon as summer comes, the D44 is going in, a T-case and the front axel from a '87 Pioneer. Oh, and a I-6 HO.
  16. You've got TWO MJs with manual steering? Do you seek them out? Hahah, well, yes and no. I have my little '89 that is up on jackstands in my driveway and at my friend's farm, his dad uses old junker Cherokees around the farm, behind the tractor barn, there is a '86 LWB 4x4 without the front, '87 Pioneer with a badly swapped in D44 and no T-case, and a litteral copy of my MJ. A 1989 Comanche 2.5L, 4spd, 2wd with the D35, but it has Power Steering. That's where I'm getting the PS pump and such, but the entire front end is seized to the bone. The box was disconnected (pitman arm was unbolted from the tierods and such) Its sad to see them sitting there rotting but he uses them for spare parts for his running 1988 Pioneer (faded dark blue, 4x4, 5spd AX-15, D44 rear, H.O I-6.) Its in beautiful condition, and he wants to keep it that way. I really need this goddamn steering fixed, There is a super-lot of play in it though, I almost have to crank the wheel a full turn before the wheels move. I'm beginning to think steering box.
  17. Mechanic just over from my house says that to have new calipers, rotors, drums, pads/shoes and the split flex line replaced it would come to just over $700. I'm doing it all myself, so its just parts I'll have to pay. And if its half finished by september, Ill toss some old plates on it, drive it to school and finish it up there.
  18. How do you get it off? I tried with an impact gun, no luck.
  19. scrangler's idea and the bottle jack idea are as far as I'll go at the moment, :) Id like to ahve it in atleast 1 peice when I'm finished.
  20. Ugh, my frontend on my '89 MJ (same spec's as this one) is stiffer than hell. Ive lubed it and all, still really tight. The frontend is up on jackstands, the steering shock may be shot, would that make it really stiff and tight to turn? Or is the steering box toast? eventually I want to put it to PS but the mechanic at the shop told me there was no way it would pass safety with steering as stiff as that. Its hell.
  21. I'm at work at the moment, it won't start right at the moment but the 2x4 idea will work, and I'll secure some torches to heat it some. Thank god for tradesmen parents. Ive beat onit for about 2 days now, and soaked it in penetrationg fluid. nothing, not even prying breaks 'em loose. The bottle-jack will definately work, I have 2 small/medium sized ones that porbably will fit between the frame and tire.
  22. ugh, this thing is driving me off the wall :) Ive gotten it down to a rough $500 to get it roadworthy. Hopefully it will be on the road by September, if not, I'm going to have a fun time biking to work in the snow.
  23. Curses on the alumnim $#!&-rims that my MJ has. So far, Ive only had one out of the four acctually come off, the rest are sized on. I got the sized front off my soaking the hell out of it with Penetrating fluid then prying it off with a prybar jammed against my caliper (needs replacing anyway) The 2 rears are stuck solid. Its hell. How can I get them off? I have the use of a sawzall and a grinder.
  24. Finally figured out ImageShack! Here's a quick look-see at my '89 MJ. It is a bone-stock, no-option truck. Just heat, the radio is shot, bench seat. 2.5L straight 4 and the AX-4 4speed manual. Only 2wd but when I get another $#!&mobile for a DD, Ill dump some cash into my 'manche and maker'er 4x4, a few inches taller and a whole lot beefier with the H.O Straight-6. Anyone ever done slant-6 conversions? I have a 1968 Mopar Slant-6 at my disposal, and might be able to track down the 4speed it has.
  25. Don't you dare knock the 2.5L :P My MJ with the 2.5 can do over a buck forty (kilometres/hour) although it is a AX-4 4speed 2wd :) Solid little truck, needs a new floor though.
