Over heats while idling/sitting still
Paul Bruchal replied to Paul Bruchal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sooo if the fans are working, I should replace water pump, thermostat, surf. belt, and new fluids? -
I'm about to buy my 3rd MJ next week from my parents. Their are afew problems with it but its a 1988 Pioneer LWB "rust free"! The problem is that when the MJ is idling in traffic or stoplight, it tends to start over heating. If your driving down the road, it cools down and won't over heat until you stop moving again. I havent seen this Jeep in 2 years so idk if its the fan, water pump, radiator.. Anybody have an idea? Eventually, i plan on installing the 2nd electric fan in parallel with a switch.

I believe the wheels I have on mine have 3.75" back spacing... they sit pretty far out from the body. Awesome MJ btw! -
Dick Cepek $290 Mickey Thompson MTZ $280 Deegan 38 $255 I'm in the Military and I sometimes have to do training that I have to drive to, is down dirt/mud/gravel roads. Most of the time, I will be driving on pavement. And on the weekends, it goes down mud, dirt, stone trails too, to get to fishing spots and camping... I'm just wondering if any of yall have any of these tires, and wanting to know which would last the longest really.. these 3 tires are whats available to me right now and I'm thinking MTZ or D38. Thanks

My load sensor rusted apart lol I just cut the bracket off... Is the sequence: passenger rear, driver rear, passenger front, driver front??? -
Extended breakline question

Quick info: My Jeep is in NY with my parents. I'm stationed in Ft Benning GA. They are coming to visit in and might bring the MJ with them on a trailer. :D :D :D :D :D I'm about to get my Jeep MJ in July hopefully. I'm going to have the rear breakline installed before coming down here at a garage and I already have 6" lift extended steelbraided lines not installed yet. While I'm having the hard breakline installed, should I have the extended ones installed too? Because I am going to lift the Jeep soon after getting it here. Or wait until I do the lift?

How do you to tell how hot the MJ is?
Paul Bruchal replied to Paul Bruchal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Estimated around $60 each more like $400 ish. If I replaced all of them -
How do you to tell how hot the MJ is?
Paul Bruchal replied to Paul Bruchal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I might do this, with the glowshift gauges. I'm wanting the tinted gauges so you won't see anything when the ignition is off just black circles. -

Paul Bruchal replied to Paul Bruchal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well The only original gauges I wana keep is the Giant fuel gauge, and Speedo. I'm wanting to get GlowShift gauges to replace the dummy lights. -

How do you to tell how hot the MJ is?

I havent seen it in over a year, I just remember no tach, and I think lights not gauges. Did the pioneer come with bucket seats and no tach? My first Mj back in Highschool, was a pioneer and had the same gauge cluster and a bench seat... -
How do you to tell how hot the MJ is?
Paul Bruchal replied to Paul Bruchal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I know the full gauge cluster are also dummy gauges, even the 1997+ gauges are dummy gauges. They only ballpark guess where you are in temp and pressure, its not 100% accurate. -
Change of plans for me, I thought I was getting my MJ with the gauges... Well I decided it would be better to buy my mom's 1988 pioneer because she wants to sell some vehicles, and its a long bed, ZERO rust, newer create motor etc.... But their is a problem... its a 5 speed with the dummy gauges. I have no problem shifting it, just telling how hot it is. Last time I drove it to town, it was running pretty warm and had to let it cool down for a bit.. When I get this new MJ, I'm getting afew aftermarket gauges including a Tach, volt, oil pressure, and "coolant or oil temp gauge". Which is more accurate on telling the temp of the engine? coolant or oil temp?

Spectre for Comanche
Paul Bruchal replied to Paul Bruchal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My bad from digging this up fromt he grave, but I just thought of another question about the cowl CAI mod. What are you suppose to do to the vacuum lines? The VC breather tubes wouldnt be a problem but all the small tubes, where would they go/get routed to? I havent seen my MJ in 2 years and I'm trading/buying my mom's MJ. She has a new engine and everything is still in OEM stage with all the hoses and tubes attached. And I havent seen this MJ either in 2 years. #Armylife -
Hard to engage 4x4
Paul Bruchal replied to Paul Bruchal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Both. I'm at a complete stop, not in gear. -
1990 MJ Eliminator 4x4 w/ 95k miles on it. While I'm waiting to get my MJ shipped from NY, I was trying to remember what else I have to replace/fix in it, Then I remembered how hard it was to go from 2HI to 4HI to 4LO. I had to use both hands and push off the floor with my foot to pull back into 4x4. Does anyone know whats up with that? If I can, I'd like to fix it instead of replace. I have no problem buying a new TC or a JY TC if I have to

Hidden/Under Bed Storage Box Idea
Paul Bruchal replied to Paul Bruchal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That truck is exactly what i was picturing! Just further back and deeper -
I got the idea after seeing the hidden storage compartment in the bed floor of a Honda Ridgeline. Has anyone ever removed the spare tire out from underneath the bed and put a box there? Measure and cut the bed floor and have hinges on the floor so it opens to the storage box? Have a rear winch in their too? The way Id see it, is being the size of a gas tank on a XJ hanging down before the rear bumper. Its just an idea I thunked up few weeks ago and I can't find anyone that has done this to any other rigs. I need more storage space, and having a flatbed ""I'm gonna have walls and a tailgate built soon"" with just a tool box bolted to the floor behind the cab to carry and secure my tools and gear isnt enough for me. Future expedition MJ ;) Trying to be creative to have XJ space in a MJ lol. Either this or try to figure out a bed roof rack? :dunno:
