How to Adjust Steering Gearbox Play
612to303 replied to 612to303's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
From what Ive Learned at Tech School: To check tie rod ends for looseness, jack up front end, grab wheel at each side (9 and 3) on a clock and try to shake, if there is looseness, it could be your tie rod ends. To check steering shaft looseness, ( the one that goes from steering wheel to steering box) grab it and gently move it around, if there is alot of play, it may be steering shaft u joints. I would first start with the tire shake though. Any play in the steering system will be multiplied greatly bby the time it reaches the tires. another good thing ive found was to have someone turn the wheel and look at where the steering shaft meets the steering box, if the gear on the steering gearbox moves a little and the tires don't move at all, it might be your gearbox. Sorry I started to ramble on Hope this helps -
Not Exactly a writeup, but I thought making a video might help people. Might seem easy to most but I was one of the people who had no clue how to take it off Thanks! IYRZl9FXkdE&feature=g-upl&context=G2bc118fAUAAAAAAAAAA edit: link died so here's another :)

Hello everybody, time has come to sell my truck but I'm having a problem putting a dollar amount on it. Help is much appreciated What would you sell it for? What would you buy it for? That Waggy Header Panel is still at UPAP. Crazy kid tried to charge me 110 for the panel because it had 4 headlights and a wiring harness -_-. But i painted up my old one and threw it on. Ps. Your Comanche Is Amazing, what lift do you have? -Tyson -

Update So I decided to paint my comanche last week for less than 50 dollars and it turned out pretty cool. I used Rustoleum Professional Flat Black In a gallon and I sprayed it with a 10$ harbor freight spray gun. I also coated both bumpers with bedliner and ill take some pictures of them tomorrow Just need new rims and tint and it will be 100% black. Thanks -Tyson -

Death Wobble / Lift / Regear Question
612to303 replied to 612to303's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for the replys! Do you guys know a ballpark estimate of the fuel economy with 31s and 4.10s or 3.73s on highway? Thanks! -
Hey Everybody So I Have an 89 4wd 4.0 5 speed with an insane case of death wobble. Ive been lurking around a couple of forums and saw some of the causes were bad trac bar bushings Lca bushings, tire alignment, shocks etc. Now what I'm wondering is if i buy a 4.5 inch lift kit with trac bar, shocks, lower control arms and all the bushings and add 31s will my 3.07 gears be able to handle it? Does anybody have an idea of what the MPGs will be? The jeep will be used almost only going to breckenridge on I70 so the speed will be around 55-75. Thanks to anyone who can help. :waving:
