When that happened to me it was the in line connectors under the bed. They're on the driver side about a foot away from the tail light. I had some corrosion causing bad connection.

Your jeep is really looking nice I like the herculiner. My comanche is identical to yours from the factory. Are you planning on putting fender flares back on? -
Rustoleum paint job
jcComanche86lb replied to jcComanche86lb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
After some serious thought I decided to break down and spray the ole Comanche instead of rolling. I put in sixteen plus hours sanding and prepping the old paint :shake: . I sprayed the first coat of primer and have a friend who is gonna let me use his paint booth this Saturday :D . Here it is after sanding. This is it after one coat of sandable primer. I'm definately happy with the results so far. I will have pictures of the finished paint job after this weekend if all goes well. Thanks again for all the advice. -
Bop bellhousing for engine swap
jcComanche86lb replied to jcComanche86lb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It is a 231 3.8 buick v6 that is in a 1985 buick regal. I think I found an adapter to go to an ax15 on novak. -
Hi guys, I need some help, I got this bellhousing from a friend of mine today. He said that it was from his cj5 with a buick v6. I have a fully rebuilt buick v6 that I have really wanted to put into my comanche. The problem I have is that I don't know what transmission it will bolt up to. Is anyone familiar with the bellhousing? My dog checked it out but he couldn't figure it out either.

Dana 30 axle gear swap
jcComanche86lb replied to jcComanche86lb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Alright I don't know a whole he'll of alot about axles but I have another question. Would it be possible to cut the weld on passenger side of the pumpkin and swap axle tubes? I could make a jig to keep everything aligned. -
Dana 30 axle gear swap
jcComanche86lb replied to jcComanche86lb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah the front still has the tag and I counted the turns on the rear. They wanted to put matching axles. The axles came out of a 4.0 xj. So if I'm changing the gears and carrier should I get rid of the half shaft. Where would be a good place to find one? -

Dana 30 axle gear swap
jcComanche86lb replied to jcComanche86lb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The rear axle in it now is a dana 35 and i'm guessing 3.54 gears, I can double check tomorrow. The one going back in(the original) is also a dana 35 with 4.10 gears. -
Dana 30 axle gear swap
jcComanche86lb replied to jcComanche86lb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The kid that owned it two owners before me jumped the jeep and bent the front axle that's why the previous owner changed them out. By the time I got it it had the xj axles and crappy gears. The previous owner still had the original axles laying around and let me take em. Now I'm five to ten miles an hour faster than what my speedo says. So even if Swap both ring and pinion they may never work right? -
Dana 30 axle gear swap
jcComanche86lb replied to jcComanche86lb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No I'm gonna have a friend do that part for me. From what I did fine it looks like most dana 30 axles interchange but would there be a chance that the axle shafts may have different spline counts? I don't know a whole lot about axles. -
The po swapped out the original axles on my 86 2.5 manche to some out of a cherokee. I was lucky enough to get the original axles back for free. The original axles have 4.10 gears, my question is will the ring, pinion and carrier swap over to my current dana 30 (original has bent shaft). I haven't found a definite answer on the net any help will be appreciated.

Rustoleum paint job
jcComanche86lb replied to jcComanche86lb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well now I'm all mixed up, if I do the prep work and make a makeshift paint booth there's really no reason why I can't spray it. :hmm: I guess the hardest part sometimes is convincing myself I can do it. Cool thanks for all the help. -

Havnt looked into it yet but that would kinda put me back at square one without a way to spray the paint. -
Rustoleum paint job

Awesome, thanks for the links that's exactly what I needed. So even though I'm gonna use flat black I should still wet sand between coats right? -

Rustoleum paint job
jcComanche86lb replied to jcComanche86lb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I plan on a flat black and hopefully skip the wet sanding step. I have a pneumatic random orbital sander so hopefully that will cut down on prep time but I'm sure I will have to eat plenty of spinach to get it done. I did try some rattle can camo paint on the fenders but it was nearly twenty bucks a fender. I seen a bunch of guys using rustoleum and a paint roller on youtube I'm hoping to keep streaks to a minimum that way. -
I've been looking into this on youtube and the results seem really surprising. It may not look like a professional paint job but it does look pretty dang good. For someone like me who doesn't have access to a paint booth it seems like a good alternative. The thought of being able to paint my comanche in the back yard and not get the neighbors cars covered with overspray sounds pretty good. I may try it in the near future and post the results. Has anyone tried this yet? here is a link

Do you think cutting it off and drilling through the frame rail and putting a long bolt all of the way through maybe? I'm not sure if they make grade 8 all thread?
