Battery keeps going dead
jcComanche86lb replied to conner's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Did you load test the battery or did you check voltage with a volt meter? If a cell isn't making good connecting the battery can still show 13 or so volts until it's under load. Just thought I'd ask. -
1986 mj transmission questions
jcComanche86lb replied to jcComanche86lb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks a bunch guys, I found this write up and am almost brave enough to try it. http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/howt ... index.html I had already found a shop here in town that will sell me the kit for around $75. I'm just afraid of messing it up or something. Thanks again for the help. -
1986 mj transmission questions
jcComanche86lb replied to jcComanche86lb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I thought the aw4 was behind the 2.5 starting after 1988? Is there some other tranny that I should look into? -
Hi, i'm in need of some advice. My transmission started leaking out of the front seal while my girlfriend was driving it. I would have just replaced the seal but she continued to drive it home. It would only go about five mph at open throttle so I know the transmission was very low if not empty. I would rather replace the transmission instead of rebuilding it due to cost. My question is would the aw4 be a direct swap for my tourque flight 904? I searched the forum but didnt find a deffinate answer or someone who had done it in the past. Thanks in advance.

Almost done, I think it looks better.

Thanks, I was gonna finish it up today but with 60mph wind gusts I decided to put it off for a better day. I'll post some completed picture next week.

Well the mj is down with some transmission issues so I decided to build my brother a bumper for his tj. This what I accomplished in a few hours. I like it so far, still have to trim it down some.

Yes it was in the tank. It didn't completely break until I put fuel system cleaner in it. -

Well I found the culprit. It goes from the fuel pump to the steel tube that comes out of the tank. It had to have been leaking since it got the jeep because once I replaced it the jeep ran stronger than ever. And i was able to take the fuel pump back to vato zone thanks for all the help guys. -

Well turns out to be the fuel pump, is there anywhere to find a better price for one than local parts stores? Any tips or anything I should know before changing it? -

I checked the voltage at the fuel pump connector and I only get 12v if the key is in the start position. It's tbi so in don't have a fuel rail but I am going to check at the fuel filter. Is there some sort of fuel shut off in case of a rollover? I hope this doesn't lead back to my ECM. Thanks for the help so far hopefully I can get it going by this weekend. -

I have looked but I don't think I have a ballast on mine its a 1986 2.5. I've swapped relays around with no change. I also replaced the starter relay and no change. :dunno: I'm starting to think it's the fuel pump but still need to check if it is getting power. The fuel pump should run if the key is on right? -

I found that the fuel pump only runs while I am starting the engine. Does anyone know if there is a fuel pump relay or does someone have a schematic? -
My Manche quit running last night while I was warming it up and now it won't stay running. It starts and revs up to about 1200 rpm then shuts off. I can smell gas and it looks like the inside of the throttle body is saturated with gas. I do have spark so I'm thinking possible fuel pressure regulator, has anyone else had this problem?

That was hilarious. Beware of the 94 Comanche :rotf:

Ive seen this happen when the fuse isn't held in tight enough causing resistance which causes heat. If there is too much amp draw it would have blown the fuse. You may be able to bend the inside of the fuse holder so the it will hold the fuse tighter. It also may need to cleaned with contact cleaner.

Looks like a good deal. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/86-92-Je ... _500wt_948

Dang where's the project? I can make out a set of wheels and a windshield :D. Thats a good job on the camo. Hope to see more updates. Oh and is that picture of the earlier project at full flex or is that just as far as you could go without hitting the fenders?

I know he said it has radius arms on it so that guarantees that it will have cast in wedges if it's actually out of a 78? I plan on using the radius arms set up so that really doesn't bother me but it would be nice to have the option. Are the axle shafts compatible with any other d44? Would there be another d44 that would provide stronger shafts or u-joints? Oh yeah, what axle would be a good match for the rear?
-
Hi, I have a chance to buy a Dana 44 front out of a 1978 ford for about a hundred bucks. The only problem is that it's missing axle shafts and locking hubs. Is this the type that PeteM adapted to his manche. And would it even be worth putting money into? If so would chevy shafts fit?

That's one mean looking Comanche. How much lift is that?
-
Should be able to use a timing light to check it. I would check for vacuum leaks also.
-
I'd be happy to make you a set if they work out ok.
-
I haven't had a chance to drive it yet but I will update when I do. The only reason why I can see them adding stability would be due to the shocks having more leverage on the axle due to being farther out. That could also cause the mounts to snap but I don't know. The other difference would be that they are mounted on the axle as apposed to being mounted to the stock spring plate. But then again they could make things worse this way.

Making lower control arms.
jcComanche86lb replied to jcComanche86lb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well fellas I got the first one in and I'm not sure what to think of it yet. I didn't have any paint for them so they're gonna stay bare for now. I did end u notching them so that they don't rub the axle bracket but other than that they fit great.
