well i thought is was, i saw it on my way out and i had an arm load of goodies. but the diff cover sure looked like it i did not look close becuse i did not think it would fit. anyhow I'm going back next week unless other things come up. the cherokees will still most likly have the 3.55 gears in them no? what would steer me to 4.10's ie. what should i look for in the biuld of the truck. every one on the lot was an automatic. also are any grand cherokees a possable doner?

took a scouting trip to the bone yard today. there are plenty of 8.25's out there. the real reason i went was not to look for the diff though because they had an mj out there. i got some good stuff, b pilar lights gauge cluster, clock, headlight switch and a rear window gasket, since someone already broke the glass. so not to beat a dead horse more but i have to ask this. the mj i found is a 4 cyl 5 speed 2 wheel drive. this should have the 4.10 gears yes? i know its a d35 so would this be worth my time. they want 125.00 for it. then, i think i know the answer to this, but will a d44 out of a durango fit a comanche?

:clapping: i found another one this one i guess would be from an xj but is a confimed renix with the mechanical speedo. so has anyone ever taken one apart to swap out the odometer? or is there a thread somewhere in here how to? i found a better way to fix the miles go to the junk yard and be lucky enough to find an mj (a strok of luck by its self) with a full gage cluster with only 5000 more mile than the one you already have

so for being prepared i shoud bring along a couple of axles some gear oil and some RTV. but i was just wondering about the smile thing. i have seen renforcement brackets for the front axle. would it be possable to do something like that for the rear? spitting ring gear teeth kind of makes me think that perhaps the tubes where bent slightly and finaly they just gave out. I'm sure you know better than i but just thinking out loud

hey my guages came in. :headpop: not sure how this guy figured it cam out of an 88 when it was clearly written across the top with a JY paint marker 92 CHEROKEE  . anyhow he said he will take it back and refund the money plus shipping. the search gose on  thanks for everyones feedback

is there one part more than others that blow up on d35s or is it anyones guess?
-
so about gears and swaping out axles. i know it is not for the beginer but why not just change gears in the axles. i have seen a lot of posts about the d35 axle thats in the rear. just how bad is it?

This is not correct. The 84-86 clusters have a speedometer that has the cable attached with a small retaining screw. The tach is not adjustable. The 88-90 cluster has the speedo cable attached to the speedo head with a white nylon pinch connector, and the tachometer has a potentiometer that allows you to calibrate it for use with a 4-cyl or 6-cyl. The early clusters can be used in the later vehicles (and vice-versa), but you have to replace the speedometer cable. Problem is, the question is for an '87 and I don't know which type was used in 1987. The change might even have been mid-year in the 1987 model run. well we will find out in about 5 days. i just bought it off of ebay. if it works ill be  and if it don't ill be :fs2: but then i will offer it up hear for sale for what i paid for it :clapping:

nice truck, what size tires are those? as far as lift i have ordered the 3" leaf pack from hell creek. unfortunatly i just missed his last run of springs so i will have to wait until he has enough orders placed to run another heat. for the front half i have been looking at Rustys off road parts. his 3" kit less the aal.
-
thanks guys the one I'm looking at is out of an 88 xj. what will i need to do to get the tach to work. or is it all ready to go.
-
I'm looking at a full gauge cluster swap out wth my idiot light cluster but i was wondering if it matters if it comes from an XJ and dose the year of the doner make a differance?. mine is an 87

in a perfect world where i was patient but I'm thinking i can't wait  . might take to long to find the axles. one more question though. having only a 4 speed with no overdrive and running 4:10 gears what could i expect my rpm's to be at 65?
-
hey i saw your tuck in the cherokee biuld book pretty cool . thanks for the info i was realy thinking i would not need one but was not sure. as for the gears your right on 3.55. as far as tires i was thinking of 31" do you think this will be a problem for these gears?
-
so i am going to go with a 3" lift but was wondering if this small amout of lift would need a SYE or not.

two weeks ago i took the truck out with erie shores jeeps and 4x4 to wellsville ohio. this trip was the first time i have ever taken the truck off road and the 1st time i have ever went off roading. it just so happened that the jeep right behind me was video tapeing the hole ride. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oz5uGpac ... rofilepage
