xeducatex replied to xeducatex's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Alright ive figured out this photo thing so I will constantly adding photos from this point on so check in regularly for progress Anyway ive been waiting two weeks to get paid so I could just get her in my name. Hopefully I get a big check and I can fix the winshield as well. A guy on craigslist will come to me and replace it for 115$ so id like to get that done as well. Then if I don't have enough this check I'm going to buy some leveling coils to take care of the horrible looking front end sag until I save enough for a lift. Ill also be painting her od green and getting a aftermarket bumper and new headlight bezels Better pics tommorrow -

After lurking on this site for years and after letting the perfect comanche slip through my fingers I have become the proud owner of my first jeep comanche. I bought her off a cool guy and his wife in lake forrest. He actually said his dad is a member here so if you see this sir, hi. 1100$ but sold with paperless title(PO just registered from out of state and was waiting on new ca title) so I'm still kinda holding my breath till I actually get the pink 195xxx but the 4.0 runs strong  Ba10 trans that must have the dreaded syncro problem cuz it hates first gear and sometimes all the gears but if you treat her kind she will shift smooth. Also new clutch about 5k ago Has a leak from the distributor seal the PO said The linkage to engage the 4wd is missing the clip so somtimes it pops out of place. When engaging 4wd ive discovered 4h doesnt seem to engage but N and 4l works. Also has a cracked winshield and of course the rusted floorboard. Other than that the rest of the issues are minor cosmetic stuff. immediate plans are waiting till friday after next to get paid so I can get her in my name and get the title sent to me. Then the winshield on the next check and then OD green paint with replacement fender flares. Then at least the rear bumper and hopefully a leveling kit or a small lift...........from here who knows ;) After waiting forever to get a comanche I must say its everything I thought it would be. The 4.0 has plenty power and runs like a top. The whole interior layout is very confortable and spacious. It handles great. I will add pics as soon as I get a chance.....stay,tuned

1987 4.0 4x4 comanche CLUTCH PROBLEMS?
xeducatex replied to xeducatex's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm waiting for this guy reply so i can let you know the answer to those questions. i was wondering if i do upgrade to a ax15 is it pretty much a bolt on replacement or will i need a new transfer case and what kind? also what transfer case do i have now? -
so i found out from the guy I'm buying this truck off of that he thinks its the master/slave that is the problem but he isnt sure since there is a internal slave in the ax5? he says the clutch doesnt engage at all.......what could make it do taht? also how easy is a ax15 tranny swap? i found a guy who will sell rebuilt ones for 500

1987 4.0 4x4 comanche CLUTCH PROBLEMS?
xeducatex posted a topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
so I'm in the process of buying this 1987 comanche 4.0 with the ax5 i believe and the guy says the clutch needs a rebuild. he says it doesnt engage at all. he says he is pretty sure it is the master/slave but he isnt sure and doesnt wanna say one thing and have it be something else. he also mentioned how there in a internal slave on that transmission. i was just wondering if any of you have any idea what it could be. if its the transmission or the clutch? please someone help so i can start figureing out how to fix this. are there any questions u guys need asked to help me? let me know!!!!!!!!! -
Well I found out it needs a complete clutch rebuild meaning the master slave $#!&. How much is this gunna cost me guys?
-
is replaceing the clutch myself a pretty easy job or what? I'm no expert but i am mechanically inclined and i have a few friends who know what they are doing. but i don't really have room anywhere if its a big project. i could prolly find space in someones yard for a day to do it but no longer. should i just take it to a shop? i know a guy that will give me a bit of a discount. also trying to get it fixed asap once i get it so i don't have to ride to work anymore in the cold. i get paid every week but only around 150-200$ so I'm on a budget too. if i do take it to a shop it will take about 5 weeks of saving ALL my paycheck. that means feeling like a fool for mooching off the gf which i DO NOT like doing. oh and i forgot to mention it needs a new cat. how hard is that to replace? should i say @#$% it and try to pay my way to smog certification?

hey I'm new here to the club. I'm hopefully going to be picking this baby up in a month or so. its a 1987 comanche 4x4 4.0. the guy is selling it for 700$ but it needs a new clutch and is behind on registration since may. I'm just hoping some of u guys can tell me how much it would cost for a new clutch and what are some starting points as far as a build up go. id like to throw on a 3inch lift and everything else i want to do is pretty much cosmetic. i want a daily driver that i can take up to the mountains or out to the desert and have some fun without getting to crazy. http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/8256/comanche3.jpg http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3491/comanche.jpg http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/6060/comanche4.jpg can't figure out how to post pictures. can someone help?
