  1. New sway bar bushings, and four new shocks today. Trying to improve the ride a bit for my big upcoming move. Still have an odd vibration under load, and trying to track it down.
  2. I've been getting some vibration lately, both around 35-45 mph in 3rd or 4th, and 65+ mph in 5th. It only happens under load, in gear. Let off the gas, the vibration vanishes. Put it in neutral or clutch in, and I can rev without it vibrating at any vehicle speed. Transmission mount? :???:
  3. I've seen it on XJ's, but I suppose most of the GC's I've seen have the gray cladding. Was body-colored cladding an option?
  4. No idea on your wandering issue, but I have to tell you, that is a very slick-looking GC. I almost never see them in that red - is it a repaint, or just a rare factory color?

    Road Trip

Well, my MJ will be put to the test next week. I'm moving from Mesa, AZ to Boise, ID. Hoping to do it straight through, with a co-driver. This is just the preliminary move - once I line up an apartment, I fly back down and do it all again, in a moving truck. Wish me luck, fellas!
  6. Yeah, it's stock. Is that a decent price for those? There's a 4Wheel Parts shop on my way home from work. I think I'll have to stop in there and see if they'll price match their website.
  7. I see. 4 wheel parts has the 5100's for $58.99/ea. Is this the right shock that I'd need? http://www.4wheelparts.com/Lift-Kits-Su ... mlprox=out
  8. I've never bought shocks before - I've heard that lots of folks like the Bilsteins, but what about them makes them worth the money?
  9. Looking to improve my ride, as I've got a 1000-mile move coming up and what appear to be original shocks. However, there's a decent chance that, if we only need one car in our new area, that the Jeep will be up for sale. As such, I'm hesitant to put my money into a set of Bilsteins or similar, but I don't want junk in case I keep it. What have y'all run that you like, and isn't on the too-expensive side?
  10. Got a picture of the diff on each rig?
  11. Today, I got tired of the faded gray front trim, and decided it was time for flat black. After another coat of paint when the wind dies down, it'll all go back on.
  12. Year? Motor? Have you checked your sensors?
  13. Lots of folks keep quiet if they don't have any useful information. I'll hazard a guess. Is your current cable missing, or is it just broken somewhere? If you can take it all off together, you can compare it to a like-era Cherokee cable, which should be the same. :dunno:
  14. There's a possibility I lucked out - looks like the hose clamp on the fuel filter had come just a little bit loose. Will double check tomorrow - thanks for the suggestions guys! Knew I could count on you.
  15. Lemme guess - I need to drop my tank to effectively check those items? :wall:
  16. So, took my truck in today to get a new muffler, finally. The guy took one look under it and says they won't work on it till they track down the gas leak, that I didn't know I had. I looked under the truck, and saw was these streaks on the tank, which I didn't notice a few weeks ago when I did the oil change, so I assume they're new. What are some common culprits or diagnosis tips? There are no constant drips or anything that I can see.
  17. Just curious - if the engine in it runs good right now, why not leave that motor in it, find another 4.0 in need of a rebuild, fix that motor the way you want it, then swap it in? No need to hassle with swapping in a V8, then undoing all that work when your stroker is done. You definitely won't want that Peugeot tranny behind a V8, either. The torque of the 4.0 is pushing it, especially under hard use.
  18. Could also be that both low-beams are burned out. Happened on a friend's car once.
  19. A 4.0-based motor will be the easiest swap. A V-8 is doable, but cooling is an issue. How are your fab skills?
  20. An angry vent without any details isn't much help - what was the problem?
  21. So, if I pull a set off a junkyard WJ, they'll just bolt right up? Sorry if that seems obvious, but suspension work is new to me.
  22. I know that my bushings are pretty tired, and my ride is... jarring, sometimes. How hard of a job is it to replace them?

Shelby, if you need the chrome trim, I have the grille, the running lamp housings, the headlight buckets, and the bar that runs above the grille - just couldn't get the lower bar off the old '86 before it was time to go. It's not perfect, but it's decent if I remember right.
