  1. Sorry if I didn't catch it earlier, but I assume you have a 4cyl manual trans? I'm guessing your engine tossed the thrust bearing? Did it sound different or the idle change when the clutch was pushed in and out?
  2. Pulled the carpet up to inspect the damage. Driver side was a little worse than I thought, but luckily the pass side was solid with only some surface rust. Waaay better than my other truck was. Spent some time this week on the floor. Realizing I had no sheetmetal, and there was no way I was buying a floorpan for this thing, I chopped up the hood on the J10. Metal was thick enough, and this way a piece of it can live on in another Jeep before I send it to the crusher! Pretty much got the floor done. Still a bit of welding left before I seal it all up. The front end is all slopped out, so I'm just going to bolt in the d30 left over from my 91 XJ. Hopefully I'll come across a cheap ax15/231 some time in the future before the pukegoat craps out. (although the thing shifts pretty awesome right now!) Going to swap the front end next week and put my new windshield in and it'll be on the road! At least now I have a comanche to drive until my other truck is done.
  3. Well, I wasn't going to start a thread for this truck, but oh well. Guess it's what happens when you hang around here on CC too much. Picked this truck up a week ago. 89 4.0l 2wd with a pukegoat and d35. Bought it for $500 off a really nice chick that had it for the last 4? years. She bought it in BC and drove out to Manitoba, then made the same trip a couple times to go treeplanting. So I figured I'd call this one Treehugger.
  4. Niice ...front end wasn't clobbered in too bad then huh? Same wheels I have for my truck, looks great! What size tires are those? I was going to throw some rubber on my wheels for my DD, but wasn't sure how big I could could go on that rim.
  5. Cool, maybe they've crossed paths before:)...PO bought it somewhere in BC about 4 years ago, and the Rhino Liner was done in Kamloops. I pulled the seat and carpet today, got the floor ready for the patch....dang, it looks like I may have to start a build thread for it after all. Stupid Comanche addiction.
  6. Well, once again not much to update. Pulled the front sheetmetal/rad support off both the MJ and the parts XJ. Need a little more trimming on the truck before I can weld the XJ stuff on. Since this thing is taking me way too long, and I really need a truck, I convinced myself to buy another comanche. It's an 89 2wd 4.0l with a pukegoat and d35. $500 and I drove it home. The box is in way better shape than mine and it's got a spray in bedliner...which will definately end up on Mr BoobsII. Going to do a ghetto patch on the driver floor, put a new windshield in it and just drive it until Boobs is roadworthy. If I ever do anything beyond that, maybe I'll start a different build thread for it.....highly unlikely though. And yes, I noticed the grill
  7. Looks like the front end is pushed in pretty good...perfect excuse to do a 97+ conversion!! Heck yeah! Keeping it 2wd, or converting to 4wd?
  8. ....day 34, hour about 15 for us.... As he looks at his imaginary watch!! :rotf: I thought I was the only person that referanced their imaginary wrist watch.....and I've never worn a watch in my life! Seriously, I do it all the time. Great progress guys, can't wait to see the outcome! Maybe I missed it and sorry if i did, but where is the the best place to see coverage of the UA?
  9. From your posts in shelbyluvv's build thread, you're obviously looking for decent fuel mileage and you love vehicles with turbos.....hmmm. If you're keeping it a 2wd street truck, that Toyota turbo is looking better and better for you. It would all depend on how much you would do or fabricate yourself, and if the wiring would bother you. A 1jz would be a lot cheaper than a 2jz, and still make great power with turbo fun! Dang it, now you have me rethinking my build. Jerk. I'm out, gotta go take inventory on what I can sell to fund a 2jz!
  10. -COUGH-toyota 2JZ-COUGH-
  11. I know what I would do, but it's too blasphemous to mention on this forum. All I will say is that it will fit great, make a lot of power, reasonably cheap, and bolt up to the aw4. I don't see why the aw4 couldn't stay in it's stock location (maybe firewall clearance), meaning stock crossmember and driveshaft. I'm sure a lot of you know what I'm talking about. Don't shoot me.
  12. Little update. Motor on the shop air compressor puked just after last update, still haven't got a new one. As a result I haven't bothered trying to get a lot done. How some people get so much done without air tools is beyond me. Yanked the rear leafs out of the parts J10 on the yard. I still need to pull the 360 to put in storage....one day it might end up in the Comanche :brows: Then it's most likely off to the shredder. Pressed some new bushings into the leafs, and mocked up the 8.8 under it. Put the bald 33's from the XJ on it to see how things would look. Finished welding some bracing on the floor and coated it with Chassis Saver (like por15). Needs to be scuffed and bedlined as soon as I have air again. Hauled out the wheels that will be going on it. What are these again? Some sorta wrangler wheels? 15x8's anyway. I'll most likely end up powdercoating them silver, and the inset sections 'black chrome' or 'black chrome II' This is what black chrome looks like (riser on my sled). Didn't turn out how I thought, more gunmetal. Black Chrome II is supoosed to look more like it sounds, but I haven't tried it yet. Any thoughts? So that's how it sits for now. Waiting to get the compressor fixed, so in the meantime I'll make some templates for a bit of frame plating on the front rails and bumper brackets, and get the them plasma'd out. Then get the engine bay cleaned up and plating burned in before I put the front lift on.
  13. Here's a pic taken from TerraWombat's build thread. Looking back on my old pics from my rusty 86 I see it didn't have that lump. Not sure if I'll need it when I swap everything from the 91 Xj as I still haven't checked.
  14. One thing I just realized on your floor and mine, the area where the tcase linkage bolts. No 'lump' in it as I have seen on other trucks. Not sure if this is going to be a problem, as I have not looked at my donar xj yet to check.
  15. After doing all that on my truck (was almost as bad), I decided I was crazy. So yeah, you are definately crazy.
  16. Ha! Tan was the first thing I thought of when I saw the wheels (and some bigger tires of course)
  17. Lookin great! I envy your progress...truck time for me is thin, plus the motor just crapped out on my air compressor :wall: What vehicle did you nab the driveshaft out of at the junkyard, another comanche? I've been wondering what to do after my 4.0 and 8.8 swap. I like the wheels...but for some reason my brain says no on a red truck. Not sure why. :dunno:
  18. Got off work early today and headed to the junkyard. Found a 8.8 from a 97 exploder. No lsd, but 4.10 gears to match my front, and even had new brake pads in it for $100. There was actually a comanche there that looked pretty complete but didn't have time to check it out, other than seeing it was a 4.0 shortbox 4x4. I may go back next week for a zj master/booster and see if there is anything worth grabbing from it.
  19. Yeah, poor truck...little did it know that I'm always trying to work on too many projects at once. Fortunately I've been thinning out the ones that really just weren't cool enough, plus selling off a huge pile of random parts that 'I know I'll need someday for my ________project". The header was an APN from ineedparts.com. Found enough good feedback for it, and was super cheap. Made sure to get a flexpipe with it. My bro just got a whole bunch of new powder for powdercoating, including a high temp that's supposed to be good to 1200 degrees. Looks like the header will be the guinea pig! Spent all evening today at the shop cleaning; way to much stuff in the shop, and over the winter the truck turned into a table. Going to the junkyard this saturday to look for an 8.8 from an exploder....figured if I'm welding new spring perches on anyway, why waste my time doing it on the 35?
  20. Well, still haven't touched the truck since last fall. Sled season started and it got pushed aside. Wrenched on sleds all winter (what little time I had) only to put on about 250 miles. Oh well, shop is getting cleaned up, and Mr Boobs II will be back under the knife. Just ordered my lift from Tom at Hellcreek on Thursday (thanks again Tom!), can't wait to get back to work on it. Updates soon.
  21. Just have someone put their foot on your tailpipe while you check the whole exhaust from one end to the other. Little leaks become far more apparent when the pressure builds up!
  22. Wow, does that look all too familiar! So glad I'm finished my floors, now I just need time to finish the rest of my truck. That's pretty much the same approach I took....por'd the inside, and sprayed weld-thru primer on the tops where the panel would weld. Maybe I missed it, but are you putting carpet back in, or doing something else?
  23. Not much to update. Pass side rocker is in. Driver side about ready to burn in. Worked on it today for the first time in 2 weeks....feels like a month! Once the other rocker is in, I'll need to pull the bed to finish the last couple inches of welds. So, pulled the fuel tank today. It's shot, gonna need a new one. Too bad, that'll cut into my lift monies. :fs1: Decided on a color...I'll paint the door jambs, and probably the engine bay after the other rocker is done. At least then I can assemble it and start driving it...then not have to tear it down again whenever I actually decide to throw paint on the outside. You'll all just have to wait on the color until I paint the jambs  Pics after next shop day!
  24. Not sure if the safety inspection in Ontario is anything like Manitoba, but if it is, you're not gonna get away with riveting patches in your floor. Here it has to be fully welded. Unless of course your rivet job is really good, followed by undercoat, then some dirt...... :brows: ...so they won't think to lift your carpet and check!
  25. Slowed down on progress a bit the last week or so. Made a new floor/seat brace on the driver side and put it in. Before I put the side brace back on. Finally got some steel for my rockers. Cut both rockers, capped them, tapped them for air fittings. After cleaning the rust off they'll be ready to weld on. Just need some final trimming and prep on truck to fit them up. Tapped them for air right behind the cab, so they line up with the holes on the frame rails. I'll run a hose through those holes to tie them together. Already hooked shop air up to both, no leaks. Rockers should be in after this week, and floor all por15'd and seam sealed. Then it's on to the rad support before I start swapping everything over from the Cherokee.
