We had the high idle for sometime. Cleaned and switched out the IAC, still high but not as bad so we just kept running it. Then one day while we had the hood up giving her a look see while it was running I locked right onto the vaccum leak with my ears and eyes just as an eagle looks onto its prey. One of the caps had fallen off, stuck my finger on it to cover it and she ran like a dream. My kid that though I was a God (he drives our beloved comanche)... I just felt like there,,,see told ya kid. And voila you too will have the same luck. I hope!

91coMANche..... and you didnt have to worry about any electronics?

I am running 30x9.5 in tires right now with the stock gears 3.07s (Pete provided me with the gear ratio awhile ago, thanks again) Yes i did mean ZJ....in reference to the 4.0 engince that i have access to. I also have access to the rear / front end parts as well, 3.55 I think. The engine i have in it right now is the original engine but i know its getting a lil tired. I just want to be prepared when it goes. So if i could do something with the ZJ engine that runs good, i would like to utilize it. Should i just rebuild that one, maybe stroke it, if its going to work.... thats the big question. If i do rebuild it can i just drop it in and go without worrying about the computer stuff?

I have access to a 94 WJ engine. Will this work for me? Questions I would have would be.... Is it a direct fit, bolt in? Would I have to change out the computer? Could I still use my 5-speed? I'm thinking about using this while I rebuild the engine that is in it into a stroker. The engine runs good right now so I think that I can get some miles out of it while I take the time to do the rebuild. I guess I realized that the V-8 would be a lil too in depth for what I'm looking to do. Does anyone know what engines would be the easiest / best to drop in, other than a RENIX?

Worked OK for me. Not too bad for the money. I think it gave it the just the right stance that it should have had originally. Plus it gives you a lil more options for tires.

Just from these posts I think that I will more than likely choose the path of least resistance by going with a 4.0L based powerplant. Maybe I will stroke one out. What about computers? What would be the concerns there or would I just be able to to drop another 4.0 right in?

I currently have a 1988 MJ with a 4.0 that is getting a lil tired so I need a few ideas for replacement engines. What would be the best all round engine to put back in mighty manch. I am looking for some more power so should I just go with a newer 4.0 or a V-8 like a 4.7L? What would be the pros and cons of each? Would I also be able to keep my 5 speed as is or would I have to change my tranny out as well if I went with a 4.7? I would like to do a 4.7 or some other V-8 with as little headache as possible.

The wiper motor sprayer is not working correctly. The wipers wipe when told to do so but when the switch is turned to activate the spray.... nothing. Now for the good part.... picture if you will... my buddy out with the volt meter and me sticking my head out from behind the door as I was attempting to get it to spray by activating the switch inside. Let's just say I got an earlier shower than expected that day. So.... we now know that the motor works when power is applied but not from the switch. Any ideas as to where the most likely problem would be. Thanks

Which floors are the same MJ vs XJ?
Jomanche replied to Jomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I got the set from quardratec... they fit nice you just have to make sure that they are seated all the way to the rear so that they do not catch on the clutch pedal when it is depressed. I'd reccommend anyway though. -
Pete Are there hats, shirts, sweat shirts available? Let me know because I would like a few for me and my son to represent the club here in Erie PA.

Which floors are the same MJ vs XJ?

That would be great if you would take the time to post the pics so I could see what they look like. Are they hard rubber/ plastic and molded to fit? who did you order them through? thanks -
Which floors are the same MJ vs XJ?
Jomanche replied to Jomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So what good options do I have for a nice fitted floor liner such as products made by husky or weather tech? I had a YJ and like the hard plastic type tray mat that fit perfect. I've had the mighty mance for a few years now and my floors are solid and I want to keep them that way. I think if I can limit the the amount of slush that is brought to bare against my floor boards during the winter months here in Erie Pa that I can prolong their replacement. -
I am looking at getting some form fitting floor liners for my 88 comanche. Either weathertech or husky, or if someone has a better alternative I will look at that as well. Question is this....what year XJ floors or the same fitment as my 88 MJ? I have a bench seat but I'm pretty sure that bench seat vs bucket seat won't change anything. Right? So I basically need to know what year XJ floor mats to buy. Thanks in advance.

Turns out it's not that important, I just wanted it to make it complete and to help with any future adjustments. I just tightened everything up in place and it is holding fine as it should.

Pete, in the diagram, what is the #9 called, and or part name? Where can it be found for purchase? While changing out my water pump this somehow broke. Thanks!
-
Thanks guys, I'll put it back in just to be safe
-
OK,,,,I'm replacing the waterpump on my 88 4.0, so since I have access to the lower radiator hose area I am going to replace it along with any of the other hoses that look to be in question. I noticed that the lower hose has a coil / spring in it (saw this while flushing the system). The new replacement hose does not. Is this because the newer hoses are built better or do I need to try and get that spring out and re-use it. Thanks in advance!

4WD low works but no 4WD high
Jomanche replied to Jomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Going to get it up on a buddies lift to diagnos and fix. while its up there its going to get a gallons worth of rustoleum satin / trim paint, after powerwashing whats loose. -
I just checked it today, the pulley that is.... I hope that it isn't the problem....it is tight on the pump (i did try to see if it needed snugged down) but there is some play in it as if the bearing is bad on the pulley. I guess well see when I actually get the water pump on.

Which bucket seats will work?
Jomanche replied to Jomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hey, thanks for the inputs. I'm probably going to grab alot of those parts. One that I ddin't think of was the radiator to convert to an open cooling system. He's keeping the rearend and already sold the engine and tranny, engine was a 2.5. But I guess I'll see when me and the kid get out there with our tool bag. Jeep, Jeep, Jeep on! -
I don't understand what I initially wrote either. I must have been a little tired. I want to use one key for the door locks and ignition. I heard that someone has done this but can't fint the post. I think that they used a newer style jeep key, the one with the rubber end, and adapted it's use for the door locks and ignition. I'm not too concerned about securing the glove box with just one key, if I feel like locking the glove box I will still have the other key handy to do so. Thanks.
