Was the RENIX put into all Jeep models, like the YJ, XJ, MJ, ZJ? Just trying to hunt down water pump pulley.
-
A couple question: 1. What years did they make the beloved RENIX 4.0 engine? 2. What vehicles did they put said engine in? still trying to locate water pump pulley. we did find it at dealership, for $125. so now we are trying to locate one more on principle alone.

Is rustoleum painted on the undercarriage the way to go to protect it once all the rust is knocked off? I have access to a lift and the rest of the stuf to do it isnt all that bad. I just want to paint it with some rustoleum satin/trim or flat to protect it and to make it look good to. Going to use bedliner on the inner floors after getting them upto speed, the re-carpet them, same with the jambs and lower quarter panel area to prevent chipping, from the mold line down.

this posting pics thing is for the birds. i have plenty of good pics to post but i don't use that web service. it should be as simple as cutting and pasting the pic into the text area, so surely someone has to have an easier way to post pics of our rides. .

Which bucket seats will work?
Jomanche replied to Jomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
And I can pretty much grab anything I want off of this 99 2 door XJ, its getting scrapped. I already bought the Gamblers with 30's on them, good price. just now what else. -
Water pump just about done had it. Found a new one at Autozone, liftetime warranty, duralast, 40 bucks. I am however worried that after putting it on that the pulley also might be bad causing the problem in the first place. Does anyone know where to pick up a water pump pulley for a 1988 MJ 4.0 4WD? I saw in a previous post on the subject that it is supposedly part #53002907. I havnt been able to locate it anyhwere locally as of yet. Any suggestions on where to find a new water pump pulley, renix era? Are renix non-renix 4.0 parts interchangeable? Thanks in advance!

Which bucket seats will work?
Jomanche replied to Jomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Good stuff guys, thanks. I will not forget to get the seatbelts, I'll be sure to add it to the list. I also plan on grabbing some lighting fixtures amongst other things. What else would you grab if you were I? I can't wait to be riding along in those comfy buckets. -
Which bucket seats will work?
Jomanche replied to Jomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
OK... I just wasnt sure which ones were easier to work with because I got a guy who who is parting out a 1999 2 door XJ. I was going to snag the seats and console.... So... it sounds like it'd be more of a pain than not huh? Anyone out there try this with a 1997 and newer seats? I saw a few of the write ups and may have to go back and check and see what years they did it with. The bench seat in the "mighty manche" just aint gettin' it no more. -
I understand that not all bucket seats are not a driect bolt in. Which buckets seats should I be looking for that are a direct bolt in from an XJ or any other jeep. Ones that also fold forward would be a bonus as well. I have seen the posts where you can take / make it work but I'd just like to take the bench seat out and put buckets in. I also plan on using the center console / armrest. the Easy, peazy, japanesey way. So any information would be appreciated. I know of a guy that had his 99 2-door XJ wrecked / totaled, so I have some access to parts. What else should I strip off of it? Thanks for the help! I wish it was easier to post pics so I could show off the MJ.

4WD low works but no 4WD high
Jomanche replied to Jomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well... I guess I really won't know until I check the CAD as recommended. FYI when I say no tension I mean none. There is also no click...when I say click I mean that last lil bit, .25in as you are actually engaging the 4WD. It's slack all the way back to the neutral position. Ughhh... I'll get er figured out......later as opposed to sooner. She drives great as a grocery getter though! -
4WD low works but no 4WD high
Jomanche replied to Jomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I havn't had the time to check out the CAD yet, but I still think, feel that's it's in the linkage. I still plan on checking it with your suggestion. I just can't get my head around why there isn't any tension what so ever when I pull the lever back. I'm convinced that it's loose or something fell off from the bottom. I've looked at the linkage on underneath and it looks like its rubbing a little bit on the underside of the hump. Got to get it up on a lift. I'll let you know. -
4WD low works but no 4WD high
Jomanche replied to Jomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I am pretty sure that the front is being powered, I got in a predicament that I probably would not have been able to get out of if 4 lo wasn't working. FYI... I wasn't able to get out of the situation until going into 4lo. I am still running the CAD. I got the truck from the 2nd owner who bought the truck when it was 2 years old. She is a friend of the family....and didn't do much driving let alone using 4 WD. I have seen the thread on the CAD locking. I like the idea of the 4WD lights working like they are suppose to but understand at the same time who cares about the light if you know your in 4WD. What does the CAD actually do? -
4WD low works but no 4WD high
Jomanche replied to Jomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Answer to the first reply... Yes I am sure that I am in 4 lo. The speed and whine of the engine is consistent with that of being in 4 lo. As far as being in 4 hi, I am almost 100% sure that it is not engaging into 4 hi when pulling back on the lever. I use to drive a 95 YJ, so I am familiar with shifting on the fly, but I attempted to shift it into 4 hi at a stand still. There isn't any real tension, or pop, at that last second of pull when you pull back to go into 4 hi. Also the lever is almost at a 45 degree angle (or higher) when I pull the lever back. Like I said there isn't any real tension when pulling back to go into hi. It feels like it isn't even hooked up until I go past neutral to get it into lo range. -
When I pull back on the 4WD selector lever to go into 4WD high there isn't any real tension and it does not engage into 4WD. It feels loose or sloopy. When I pull the lever back all of the way, to go into 4WD low it does engage. FYI, There is plenty of tension when pulling it into low and you can feel it lock in. Also when going into low the light on the dash does activate. I know that not everyone on here believes in the lights ability to tell when it's in 4WD but I believe this one tobe accurate. Has anyone had a similar problem with a fix? Thanks

What's the easiest way to seal a fuse box leak?
Jomanche replied to Jomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Gotcha! FYI... I was able to duplicate the leak prior to my posting the original question by spraying that side of the vehicle with a hose. I could see the water dripping in from the firewall side just above the fuse box and running down the fuse box on the inside. Question is this.....when refering to the clutch master cylinder leaking is everyone saying that the actual leak is a leaky clutch master cylinder or that the leak is a water leak coming from behind where the cylinder mounts? I am going to take your advice and do what you said to do, as well as sealing around the firewall side of the fusebox (the top, bottom and both sides). I also found a factory made hole (that is plugged with some seam sealer) that has a hole in the sealant...it's on the vertical part of the floorboard, almost behind the brake pedal. There is a pin hole size hole that some dripping was also observed from. So....any other input would be appreciated. Thanks -
What is the easiest way to post pics on the site? Isn't there a way in this day and age to just copy and paste where we want them to go in the text box of the message? Thanks.... I've been wanting to post pics of the new ride but havn't been able to do so. 1988 4.0 4x4....

What's the easiest way to seal a fuse box leak? I have water leaking in through the firewall onto the backside fuse box and running in. I'm 100% sure that this has been the cause of many electrical issues / gremlins that I have been having. I was thinking that a few good coatings of RTV on the fuse box seam on the inside of the engine bay compartment should do the trick. Who has done this or who has a better fix? More to follow later.
