  1. Looks like a spartan locker to me. I would keep it in there until you get the new one though. Seriously upgrades your offroad performance like you wouldn't believe.
  2. Your locker is the problem. That clunk will always remain as long as you have two solid axleshafts, I just put a lunchbox in mine. Besides a little steering feedback I don't really mind mine
  3. much to learn i still have
  4. Also, the secondary lights work when connected straight to power. So I don’t think it’s a problem with those
  5. All right so, not nearly as complicated as I thought. I tore off the lower dash to inspect my electrical components and connections. Still prime condition. This truck has been very well maintained as it has been in Arizona it’s whole life. So here’s my question. My back up lights haven’t worked since getting the truck running again 2+ years ago. My dad added secondary back up lights, and I believe he wired them in and used this connector (first pic). My question is, is this connector stock, if not, can a bad NSS (neutral start switch) cause a short in the system, thus causing my fuse to pop. When I connect that wire together it causes the whole system to short out, which is why all my lights weren’t working. I checked my wires running back to my fuse box and they are all in pretty good condition and grounded well. So I don’t think that’s my problem. Thanks guys! (Second pic is of the secondary backup lights he added)
  6. Ok I will check that tomorrow. Thanks for the help guys, will update soon
  7. Thanks. Hopefully I can get this figured out in the next 48 hours. I hate driving at night without my taillights, even though I’m only 8 minutes from my moms to my dads
  8. Headlight switch meaning the knob you pull/turn to turn on your lights correct? If so it’s in pretty good shape. If you’re referring to the connector at the fuse box, I did notice that was a little loose.
  9. Yeah I’ve been looking at fixing it for awhile. I believe it’s the switch at the trans because all my other fuses were fine today when I checked. Been looking at doing a NSS rebuild for a couple weeks. I want to get this road worthy so I can take it back to Utah with me
  10. I was about to buy one. Of course after i spend hours on hours researching mechanical problems for my truck I end up having an electrical one. I think I’m going to get all my electrical systems back up and working perfect again. I haven’t had back up lights since getting the MJ running over a year ago
  11. Also, my headlights work totally fine. Another thing that is random and interesting is my clock on my radio used to flicker unless the lighting switch was turned all the way counterclockwise until it locks in to turn on the lower cab lights. Now it stays on no matter what, no flickering.
  12. I’m sure it gets old troubleshooting others problems for them online, but any help would be appreciated. Yesterday I finally got my MJ running again, and we decided to take it on some small obstacles near our house(performed amazing), but when it became dark I realized we had a lighting issue. Something interesting to note is that I haven’t had any issues with this truck since rebuilding the motor, I have always just flicked on my lights and everything has worked great. Anyways here is the situation. When I turn on my running lights, nothing happens at all. When I pull my switch out to the second click for night time, my tail lights and running lights will not turn on. Also, my gauges/dash don’t work. I checked my fuses and all my gauges are good except one, it’s labeled Park LPS. I’m wondering if anyone knows if the tail lights, running lights, and side markers are all on this same fuse, and why my dash wouldn’t be lighting up now? Thanks all
  13. Got it all installed and finished up. I think it looks pretty cool underneath the front end. We decided to paint the springs black while we had them out as well
  14. I just got mine replaced today with a sledgehammer but my axle was also out from underneath the truck. I'll second what these other guys have said, maybe rent a bushing install/removal tool from your local autozone if you don't want to buy one yourself
  15. Got the new axle put back together and old axle pulled. If you look closely you can even see the bend in my old housing

    ouch...

sorry to hear about your accident Pete. being injured while working on cars sucks. broke my leg back in late march with a tib fib fracture while skiing, no fun. been trying to do my axle swap while still not 100% and it has been an adventure
  17. You had me nervous too looking at my pictures Luckily my dad had sent me some last night that I was able to review. On another note, does anyone have any info on a Dana 30 DIY truss? I've tried poking around looking for some info other than metal sizes that people have used, but haven't found much. If anyone knows of a template, I would appreciate a link or something sent my way. If not, does anyone have any recommendations for what design, size etc. is best? I am ok with sizing it up and doing it all myself, but more info is always better.
  18. I should also mention, I ended up having to pull it off the '95. I checked their website the day before and they said they still had the '98, but I think either someone bought it or they moved it somewhere else because when we got there it was no longer in their system.
  19. The pinion is above the centerline though? Unless I’m mistaken this means it is HP?
  20. Currently in the process of painting it.
  21. Maybe they regeared then? It’s written on the tag. I guess I won’t know for sure until I count on the inside
  22. They had the 3.55! However I still bought a locker so I’m going to inspect the carrier in this one. I feel bad, the car we pulled it from was obviously taken care of very well. But, a very good thing in regards to the axle. I’m hoping the carrier is in good shape so I only have to swap the locker over to the new carrier.
  23. They are each the 4.0. 1995 and 1998 are the years
  24. Both Cherokees that are on the lot I'm going to are manual. My dad has a buddy who owns a 4x4 shop though. Might have them do the gear install and driveshaft rebalancing.
