  1. he is saying that my axle is non c-clip and is a better axle than what you have now. and to just buy mine and fix mine rather than fix yours. he is also saying that my r&p will swap over to your axle. and you can't go wrong buying mine for $25. :D you could use the 2 axles to make 1 good one. btw did you go to harrys?
  2. Ya just pm me that wohld rule cuz harrys is far. Can u check the one manches if u see it. Thanks Paul i'll let ya know what i see there
  3. so what junk yards are you going to? i'll probably be at harrys tomorrow morning so i could look to see what they have and let you know if you want that way you don't waste a trip. they are also open on sunday so you could just go then. i can guarentee they have alot of xj axles but you'd have to weld on new perches. as far as the ds goes, i got mine shortened at a local 4x4 shop. it needs to be shortened 1".
  4. you do know your only about an hour away from harrys u pull it. i may be going there this weekend (about 1 hr 40 min. for me) they do have comanche's there somtimes. everytime i've been there they have had at least 1. i'll look for an axle for you and let you know what they have.
  5. gonna take the cheap way out and get one at the junk yard somtime. thanks for the help
  6. if you have 3.55 gears then my axle with 3.54 gears should work. the .01 difference shouldn't be a problem. i don't think theirs anything wrong with the gears. just a bad pinion bearing. i'll sell the whole thing drum to drum for $25 if you come get it. EDIT: mine is out of an 88 and has the bearing retainer plates to hold the axle shafts in. they might have changed to the c-clip in yours so i don't know if it's the same or not
  7. but hey my advise would be to take this opportunity to swap to a stronger axle. i'm very glad i did. i know i would have destroyed another in no time. a guy i know actually destroyed 2 of these in his wrangler within 6 months. he is currently in the process of swaping a d44 in.
  8. I see folks giving away (free) their D35 often. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1061935 i had my d35 for sale for a while and nobody wanted it. i'll just use mine for scrap metal if nobody wants it.
  9. i just did a d44 swap not to long ago. the only thing i changed was shortening the rear drive shaft 1" and new larger u-bolts. what gear ratio do you have? if it helps i still have my comanche d35 that i took out. it needs a new pinion bearing and seal but afaik the gears and everything else was good. it is a 3.54 ratio.
  10. did you pull the cover and check the fluid condition? i know after going headlight deep in a water hole my fluid was half water. that is what destroyed my bearings. if you have the d35 this will give you an excuse to swap a d44 in. if you did get into deep water make sure you drain and refill everything. i know from my experence it did sound like the trans was making the noise. and my rear axle got really noisey starting at about 35mph just like you are describing.
  11. i had some wierd noises coming from mine after wheeling one day and i was almost 100% sure it was the trans. well after the pinion seal started to pour out fluid i figured out it was the rear. the pinion bearing was loose and making all kinds of noises. i pulled the cover to find out half of the fluid was water. i then drained the trans and had water in that to. i guess thats what happens when you go headlight deep in water. but it did get louder when i was accelerating. so i'd put my money on the rear axle. i searched around and found a d44 and everythings been fine ever since
  12. is there a place that sells new ones? or is a used one the only option?
  13. this is not aimed tward comanche's but d44 axles in general. my brother has a 96 grand cherokee with the d44 rear axle. it has the aluminum center section. are the diff covers the same as all other d44's? i have a cover off a 78 cherokee with a d44 and he needs one because his is damaged and leaking.

  15. i'm going to have an extra long bed one soon that i'll sell you if your interested. its in 17740 pa
  16. can't you just replace the bearing and/or axle shaft? or is damage done to the housing? i have one with 3.54 gears but the pinion bearing and seal are bad. axle shafts and everything else is good.
  17. when i swaped my 44 in i had to take my shaft to the local 4x4 shop and get my driveshaft shortened 1". a 3" lift kit wasn't enough to offset the extra inch of pinion yoke length.
  18. i did this also and i'm glad i did. works great. my vac hoses kept falling off and my 4x4 didn't work.
  19. i pluged mine back in with the same plugs in the same location. if it's pluged in the wrong way it's not gonna work.
  20. my only guess is either the plug/wire in the back of the cluster is loose or whatever reads the rpm signal from the engine is bad :???: . mine just pluged right in and it works great. other than that i don't know
  21. if you have the same one i did with the rest of the gauges allready there then it plugs right in. if your truck is a 87-90 be sure to get one from those years
  22. this should help. i just swaped mine. if you have just the warning lights you will just need to get the sensors for a cluster with gauges. sensors for cherokee or comanche should be the same. i had the cluster with oil, temp, and batt. gauges allready there. i didn't have to change any sensors. it all depends on what you currently have. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=26063

have you checked harrys u pull it in hazleton. it's probably over a 2 hour drive for you though. but i'm 99% sure they'd have what you need great prices also
  24. so where is the best place to buy one? aussielocker.com is sold out and they seem to be about the cheapest
  25. mine has the 3.54 gears. so i'll plan on having to remove it
