Hey buddy!!! I haven't been here in a couple of years since I moved and bought my first house, which has been getting all my attention... Anywho, I got back here today trying to find an old post I saw a while back about TJ clutch master cylinders and stumbled upon your post while trying to catch up on what's new here... So here's some pics for ya! It's a shame because I think the original composite valve cover looked better IMO, but at least my engine block stays dry now... The hoses are kinda just thrown together to make it work for the time being, because they looked tired and already planned to re-do them all anyways with new stuff. Hope this helps!!!

Hey there bud, I haven't been to the yard in a while, but a few years back when I was searching for a replacement one, I saw that the YJ ones had different numbers on them... Are all the 2.5 ECUs vehicle-specific? I know that the ECU I found was from an '86 Comanche (the one I got your sidesteps from) and I put it in my '88, but somehow doesn't feel the same...

Actually, I only had to put front brakes and control arms, and a muffler and everything else is mint, exept 2 things still persist... A/C doesn't work; compressor isn't seized, clutch works when I feed it direct 12v, changed pressure transducer, checked wiring fuses and relays. I tried to recharge with a refill kit, but the gauge said full right away and won't take any more refrigireant. Second, both heated seats don't work; be it cushions or back rests. The switches tested good and light up, and the fuses are ok. I stopped at checking the module under the seat because the seat bolts are pretty rusted and I ran out of time. Otherwise this thing is an absolute treat, and I've got Toyo Observe GSi-6's going on soon so I'm excited to see what this thing can do in a proper Quebec snowstorm!!!

Well, the Ol' 98 Ford Ranger 2WD stepside shortcab has been loyal to me for 12 years as a daily driver, but lately has been sapping more and more of my energy, and Lord knows I ain't gaining some as I age! Sure, it still has some years of life left, but lately, I've grown tired of making new brake hard lines every 2-3 months, replacing a bushing here and a ball joint there, etc. Plus the ride is somewhat harsh, working as a bodyman and heavy equipment mechanic in the last years, I'm having back, leg and sciatic nerve problems, I needed some comfort. Also, trying to put all my groceries on the passenger seat of a single cab was getting old. And finally, having bought a house last summer, I needed something with some power to pull a trailer, which both my 4 banger Ranger and Comanche can't do, and although the 2WD Ranger did well with its 8.8 Trak-Loc diff and great winter tires, I still had a few scares last winter on my countryside roads. So here's my new daily: a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, with the 4.7 HO V8 and Quadra Drive. Funny thing is, it was the first one to catch my eye with the classy silver paint and Avila snowflake wheels. But the guy was asking too much, and I was looking more at japanese trucks like Xterras, Pathfinders or smaller SUVs under 4.0 liters of displacement to avoid the big engine tax in effect over here. Well, if y'all didn't notice, the used car market is just bonkers right now, and you now get a rustbucket for the price that you could get a respectable vehicle a few years ago. All the reasonably priced vehicles got sold hours before I could even get there to see them and they were all local!!!! After a few weeks, that WJ was still there, the guy lowered his price, but was a 1h45min drive away in Montreal; and having lived in the country all my live, I can't stand the city, espescially Montreal which I avoid at all cost like the plague! But it was my last option... So I bit the bullet and went to take a look. It's not a museum piece; it's got its flaws, but is extremely presentable, under 89000 miles, super healthy drivetrain with no warning lights and intact floors and undercarriage. Sure, the old magnet test found a small amount of bondo in the rear fenders and rockers, but like I said, if it would have been 100% intact and original, I would have ended with a second project that only drives in the summer hahaha! And PS, don't dismiss these trucks as a soccer mom vehicle like I did for so many years; it's the most comfortable and well rounded vehicle I've ever driven, and would be my forever vehicle if it was possible. I'm in love!!!!

I linked this channel a while ago in a "What are you watching" post, but again, I need to put these guys in the spotlight, as I think that what they do may help a lot of you guys restore your MJs. And I just can't fathom why this channel isn't getting more views. Scott, the main host, is an eccentric old car hoarder/ old body guy/ metal crafter/ artisan/ Magnus Walker lookin' kinda guy. He's really humble, but a master of his art in reality, doing the impossible to save old cars. He also has other cool friends/co-hosts with equally cool projects, or chimimg in for funny sketches or sideshows, Dean being my favorite one with his greasy flips and general funny attitude! In short, a bunch of raw, funny Canadian friends, bringing lost-cause cars back to life on the cheap with a lot of elbow grease. And if you want to know how to hand-form body panels, Scott's the man to learn from. I once was a bodyman, and watched his videos to learn even more since 2016. This week's video is a continuation of splicing a Biscayne 4 door and Impala 2 door to make on good car. Scott already did something similar to make a superb 2-door 1960 Plymouth Fury from an old Belvedere and Dart, IIRC. The channel is "Cold War Motors". 2.5L Renix VS 2.5L MPFI flywheel dimensions?

I didn't take the pressure plate and disc appart, as I just did a transmission swap. With the truck having a verified 126000km (around 78000 miles) at the time, it could pretty well be the original clutch as well. -

Nope, I've got a 2.5L Renix four popper. The clutch and flywheel are still the same as when it was 2wd with the internal slave AX-5. I've converted to 4x4 with a 2.5 TJ Wrangler's AX-5 trans, release bearing, external slave and clutch master cylinder. -

Those two charts were from flywheels listed for a 1999 Cherokee 2.5L manual trans on Rockauto BTW. -

Well, from what I gathered from Rockauto, the MPFI flywheel seems to have the same dimensions as the Renix one you just measured... I'm stumped! -

Ever since I did the external slave swap, I've been having trouble getting the gears in from a stop with the clutch in. The gears grind like if the clutch doesn't fully disengage. I have a TJ 2.5 AX5, slave, master and release bearing, but the Renix 2.5 flywheel and clutch that worked previously with the internal slave transmission. I've bled the clutch system many times, it has no air in it, and makes no difference. So after doing some reasearch, it seems like Renix and MPFI flywheels and clutches are different. I've got the specs for the MPFI flywheel, but can't find any info on the Renix one. Anyone have the overall thickness, or crank mounting surface to friction disc surface thickness?

My absolute most favorite tool that I own right now: the Eastwood Professional Flare Tool. I used to hate making brake lines, especially with the basic cheapo tools that always seem to make crooked flares. Now, I absolutely love it, as my flares are now 100% perfect every time, and take about 30 seconds each, no joke. I found mine on sale in a speed shop online here in Quebec, but even at ful price, I can tell you that this tool already paid for itself!!! Love it!!!!

I was a kid in the early 90's but the ones I remember the most are the Blaupunkt and Pioneer windshield or backglass decals, and the Mr Horsepower bird head, which looks like the Thrush bird, which looks like and angry Woody Woodpecker with a cigar!

IIRC, the outside black cap is pressed on, so you remove it with a flat screwdriver by prying it gently and there should be a bolt head underneath. It's been a while since I took one of these appart, but I think this is how I did it. -

Huh, what???? I'm proficient in many areas; mechanical, structural and bodywork, can hold my own in 12V electrical, diesel and hydraulics, but my car audio knowledge ends at being able to wire and install car audio. So I have no idea of what you just said, as well as when people talk about speaker impedence and ohms; might as well be algebra to me, exept I'm better at algebra hahaha!!! -

I've put in the speakers from that particular Anniversary XJ; IIRC they were rated a 120W, but they sure don't sound like it... Plus, I can't remember if they were the Infiniy ones or some aftermarket ones. I was starting to wonder if my AMC cassette radio had enough juice to drive that XJ Infinity amp.... They don't exactly get 100% along, after I wired that amp in, I couldn't tune in to FM; I only get a fast pulse on any channel now. AM still works though. Like the amp causes some interference in the FM tuner. -
Hey guys! spring's coming soon and I'm about to take my MJ out of hibernation. Since it's my summer truck and the windows are mostly down, I want to hear my music. Right now I'm running a stock AMC radio cassette through a 2001 XJ anniversary amp and the stock MJ speakers... It's crap! If you know anything about me or my build, I'm more of an OEM+ kinda guy.... I like upgrades, as long as it looks as close to stock as possible. So, I don't want a subwoofer behind the seat; I want your suggestions on the best speakers that can go in the stock locations. My goal is to be as good as my '98 Ford Ranger single cab: stock speakers with my old "92 Eagle Talon TSi (Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX I think to you American friends) double DIN cassette head-unit with integrated equalizer. It's old stuff, I know, but I dug it out from my junk to put in my Ranger after I saw a Doug Demuro video on the Eclipse pointing out that the CD AUX port could be used for your phone.... And actually, it sounds freakin' awesome for how low-tech it is, plus the cassette=playing abilities! Anyways, I don't know what my Ranger has for stock speakers, or even if they are stock, but I want the same thing in my MJ! But only stock sized speakers; I'Ve had my share of hearing loss in my youth in the late '90s and early 2000's with oversized amps and bass boxes! I just want clear and balanced sound that I can properly hear at speed with my windows down, using my stock speaker location if possible! Thanks! :)

Like eaglescout526 said... I thought the Cherokee one were all identical, so I took the rear ones from a junkyard XJ 'cause they looked pristine, but then found out once bolted to my Comanche that the bars were too long... So I swapped the "bars" and all is well. The process is easy enough with basic tools and self-explanatory once you get to take a look at the part.
