  1. Is it annoying that they sit higher? I am 6'0". I've not finalized whether I will remove the old MJ buckets off the seat brackets, and re-weld the Laredo Cherokee front seats. Will I really miss the ability to not fold the seats down? IDK
  2. Interesting...end links with new rubber are so cheap now ($17 for a pair of ZJ sway bar end links). It seems like it just makes sense to order new.
  3. Does the 97 ZJ one actually fit? Isn't this the upgraded rotational sway bar? If not, what are the part numbers for the ZJ rotational sway bar link ends?
  4. Will work on getting photos this week. Look forward to what you guys think.
  5. I have a 1987 Comanche 4x4 and was wondering what the full set of books/manuals/pouches/etc looked like. I have the original orange 4x4 manual (with original dealer/owner info), blue 1987 warranty booklet, and 1987 AMC/Jeep/Renault New Vehicle Emission Control Systems warranty. Other things that I have but aren't sure if the came originally was a clear pouch and some Michelin blue warranty paperwork. Separately I have the 1987 Comanche accessories booklet (but not the cool 4-page blue one posted above!).
  6. So there never were curved seat bottoms on MJs? My 87 MJ has a pair of buckets with curved bottoms, so perhaps they were replaced by a previous owner.
  7. Followed and did all of Cruiser's suggested Renix tips for my shifting problems. Each one improved things a bit better, the 90 TCU made a huge difference in shifting!! Further, with his suggestion of Volvo injectors, later ECU, hard wired transmission switch to Power, etc. and Grand Cherokee steering box...my Comanche driving experience is night and day difference! It still shifts lower than I'd like (around 3k rpm I think), but that is WAY better than shifting well below 2k RPM! For those with manual transmissions that are getting on it, what is your preferred shift points? How close to redline do you run up to? Thanks everyone (and especially Cruiser and Roger) for all the help diagnosing and improving the running of my Comanche.
  8. Cruiser54, yes, we've completed the following: 1, 2, 5, 10, 30, 32, 37, 40 and adjusted the TV cable. Will also continue working through the rest of the tips.
  9. I couldn't find this documented anywhere, so here is what I've pieced together so far on TCM/TCU modules with light gray connectors for the AW4: 8953003433 = green (TCM 3433), 1987 TCM from 4.0 4x4 AW4 (one year only, poor shift points) 8953005305 = red (TCM 5305), 1988-1990 TCM (revision A example dated coded 90D) The later ones which I believe don't work with the Renix Comanches (they have the green connector) received a new model numbering scheme: 56026769 = yellow, 1992-1996 Cherokee XJ, 4.0, possibly for 4wd only (example date coded 91M, 93G) 56041016 = green, Cherokee XJ 1992-96 (example date coded 96B) 56027951 = magenta, ?-1997 Cherokee XJ (example date coded 96L) After the model number appears a white box with a stamped revision identifier inside (blank=original version, A=revision 1, B=revision 2, etc). I suspect it would be impossible to figure out what is different in the revisions.
  10. Tires are 30" BF Goodrich KM2 MT
  11. Cruiser54, working through the grounds, etc. thanks for suggestions! regarding TCU being diffferent for 87 vs later 88-90 TCU, is it possible to swap a later TCU to fix shift points?
  12. Pete, thanks...that's a bit far from Seattle/West Coast and I suspect shipping would be $$$.
  13. I have one in my MJ, looking for a full Cordovan maroon one, since interior is red. When I find the red one, my gray one will be for sale. I'd love a red bench seat one day, still looking.
  14. Sorry Eagle, I meant a 90 ECU.
  15. Maybe it is better to just do an AX-15 swap rather than figure this all out...can the 428 ECU still be used with a manual?
  16. So Eagle, if the TCU is separate for 1987, how can the shift points be modified? Is there a replacement TCU that can be used? The TCU in my 1987 is the 8953003433 with a date code stamp of "86J" (built October 1986). I have the 428 ECU from a 1990 Renix already installed. Thanks Cruiser for the AWESOME tips, I have been working through them. Replaced 428 ECU, Volvo injectors, comfort mode bypass with jumper cable. However, for some reason the light for the comfort mode switch no longer lights up, despite the jumper between the tan cable and striped cable. It could have just been I looked during the day and need to check again at night. I would have thought the light would be on if the jumper was working? Will work on the grounds as well.
  17. Krptronic, fantastic info on the bedliners. Yes, there seems to be very little documented about these. Good to know about the Pendaliner connection. When a truck had a bedliner and Sport roll/light bar, were holes cut into the bedline for the entire assembly or just the bolt holes?
  18. PC06, excellent info on 88's having COMANCHE in the bedliner. GreasemonkeySC, I'm looking for an original AMC/Jeep bedliner. Thanks though!
  19. I'm looking for an original 6' short-bed liner that either says JEEP or COMANCHE, including lift gate piece. Does anyone know which years the liner said JEEP and which said COMANCHE? Thanks!
  20. This seems like a different cloth fabric, what years was this applicable to? Any idea the name of this?
  21. Tim, great info! I'll call that shop in OR and see what they've got (wow, they have an unbelievable selection of cloth for various makes). Would you consider selling your seat covers? ;) Why do some of the seats have the full vinyl headerest and some have the cutouts? What is the difference? Model year? Cherokee vs Comanche?
  22. Thanks guys! Great to know the name (Hunter's Plaid) and which years this fabric was fitted. Did these seats always have matching door panels, or could you get just the seats in this fabric (with door panels in standard Cordovan vinyl)? I'll keep my eye out for a passenger seat or rear CHerokee seat in good condition, that sounds like the best option. jeeppapa, keep me posted if they still have seats with this fabric. Would be great to repair or replace the seat. There is some vinyl damage on the opposite side bolster to the tear, but that material is easier to find.
  23. I've seen one other pattern, with larger red area. What years were the various fabrics available? I'm not sure what this one was called. Thanks!
  24. Is either of the red cloth interior fabrics still available? My burgundy/maroon/red drivers seat needs a repair to the driver's side bolster. I have searched around, but can't seem to locate any. Perhaps I could salvage some material off a door panel for the bolster.
