  1. It depends on what I'm doing For wheeling, you really can't beat a little ministry, kmfdm, or white zombie For bombing around town, nofx, frenzal rhomb, and the bosstones rock For road trips its gotta be flogging molly, social d, tiger army, or the reverend horton heat But hey, I'm just a punk kid who grew up in a hot rod family.
  2. Ok so here's something I've been pondering. The PO of my MJ said it had a rough country lift. And it had a few rough country stickers on it (which have been removed, I aint yo billboard!) But as much rust and crud is on the springs, I can't tell if he was pulling my leg ot not. The back axle is S0A right now, and it looks like there is a spacer over the front coils. This thing doesn't sit too high tho. My question is, were MJs stock SUA? Maybe it did have a RC lift on it at one point, but the springs are just shot. I think it has 235 tires on it now. I only wanna run 31s so, is going back to SUA to gain some height a bad idea? That was my plan, SUA out back and v8 ZJ coils up front Don't kill the newbie!
  3. As soon as I get my computer fixed, I'll try to do up a diagram of sorts
  4. I dunno. Maybe I hit the ditch harder than I thought, or maybe when the PO did the motor swap, he didn't do it very well. The amount of oil on the motor/trans/tcase certainly says a lot about how well he maintained it. I didn't notice when I bought it, but it was cheap and I've wanted an MJ since I was 16
  5. Yeah...I think its shot too. Put it back in and still a no go. Finally. Checked the spark (by myself, set it on the valve cover and waited till dark haha) no spark to be had I'm assuming the cps being shot would cause a no spark as well? Also, no multimeter, so I can't check the resistance. :(
  6. Yeah.... I noticed a bolt was missing from the bell housing, just below the cps.
  7. Got the cps out, cleaned it up but I don't think it will do. The sensor itself looks like something hit it or ground it down. And the plastic housing is cracked in a few places. No, I haven't checked for spark. Stupid, I know, but I don't have anyone to help, so its kinda hard to see if I have spark by myself. I'm in the process of putting the old cps back in, mostly cuz I don't have 75 bucks to give the stealership. And I need to get to work on monday. All I can do now is warm up a little, cross my fingers, and put the last cps bolt back in
  8. Ok, d-cap was clean, have fuel pressure (checked the redneck way of course) So it must be the cps. Any tricky ways to get the dang thing off besides a swivel and a crapload of extensions? I fought with it for a bit and came back in cuz my hands were frozen.
  9. Yeah, the cps was gonna be next on the list. I'm assuming its the little plug that sticks out of the block, drivers side, right above the oil pan and a few inches from the bell housing? Flexplate....fly wheel, same thing lol. I've always gotten corrected on that one. Its an auto, so flexplate...
  10. Quite certain mine has the resistor, based on the pics you put up. It may be an 87, but the motor has been replaced, from what the PO told me, out of a 90 or 92. Can't remember. Gonna check the distributor cap, spark and fuel system schrader valve tomorrow. If none of those give me even a slight clue, I'm just gonna push the dang thing into a busy street
  11. Ok update time. I got towed home last night, and checked the fuel pump connection right away. Its fine. The fuel pump is running, I can hear it prime right after turning the key. I have no idea where the fuel pump ballast relay is, nor do I know how to jump it. But if my fuel pump is running, that probably isn't it right? I checked the cps connection. All is well. I haven't actually pulled the cps out and put it back in like suggested. I have noticed the back of the engine is one oily SOB, hoping its just the valve cover gasket, but its probably the RMS. I wonder if some oil didn't get onto the flywheel when I put her in the ditch? I don't have a single penny to my name for parts, so I'm hoping I'm just an R-tard and missed something. It ran fine all day before I went into the snow :dunno:
  12. Ya know what? I did miss the entire subforum about DIY's  I'd already pilfered through the tech forum, and project forum pretty thoroughly But it was just an idea I'd had, and apparently someone beat me to the chase. Don't kill the newbie! :dunce:
  13. Before anyone jumps me on searching, please be aware I'm posting this from my blackberry. And CC is a little hard to navigate. On my way to work this afternoon, I slid into the ditch and got stuck. No biggy, I threw it into 4L and started to back out. Then my engine died. The oil light came on and it refused to start (yes it has oil, don't ask) Got pulled out, but it still refuses to start. Keep in mind that the only thing that really saw any snow at all was the front drivers tire. The starter will crank all it wants, but no go. Please any help you can give me would be great. I don't get off till 3am and I really don't want to hike the mile from work to my truck then another 5 home in subzero south dakota temps.
  14. One of my instructors at wyotech taught me this life lesson. Ever since I've lived by that creed. Probably the best thing I learned during my time there (learing how to paint, do body work, and custom fab dang near anything was a plus)
  15. Aaaaah. I'll step off my soapbox now :P
  16. Ok. Being a n00b here, I know I don't have much credit. But past forums I've been on had a sticky in the tech section where everyone could list common mods to do to your vehicle. Now I'm not talking half doors, exo-cages, or the 97+ front clip swap. What I'm talking about is simple, not too spendy mods everyone could(and probably should) do to their MJ. Things like swaping out your valve cover for the newer one Soo....if you have one, post it up, along with a link or write up if you have one, then maybe someone in admin could make this post a sticky. It would be a great reference point for newbies
  17. 10"? A foot? Pfffft. We've gotten over 5 feet this year and winter usually isn't over till mid april. Spring is a loooong time away for me
  18. My last two vehicles were a Nissan Pathfinder, and Toyota Tacoma Doublecab (both lifted, both wheeled) So I never really had a problem carrying groceries or any other crap while out shopping, but now with the MJ, I really have no room for bags of stuff, especially if the Girlyfriend is with. SO! here's my idea: I'm gonna make an expanding basket of sorts to go from one bedside to another that will hold some of those cloth grocery bags that are so dang trendy nowadays. It would probably all sink back into one side much like a drawer, I'd put weather stripping between both sides of the door and frame so I wouldnt have to worry about moisture, or any other stuff getting into the closed unit. The plan is to have it all suck back into the bedside when closed, so it wouldnt hinder handing any other payloads. Id throw up a diagram, but I'm on my girlfriends computer, and my original sketch is on my external drive back home I guess my only question is: Has anyone already made somehting similar, or is there an aftermarket one available? After I figure out my own version, would anyone be interested in one? i could probably get it ready to make multiples by summertime (its -20 degrees here most days lately)
  19. How deep is deep? What he said.
  20. Mine is in great shape, aside from being baby blue in color :ack:
  21. Thanks for the tip! It's on my to-do list
  22. Hmmm maybe I'll head to the stealership tomorrow, then maybe the glass shoo
  23. Looks awesome. Now to track one down for myself... :typing:
  24. Thanks for the PDF's I was actually hoping to see if anyone had actually owned one, or knew where to track one down
