  1. The Comanche Bed is the LWB, this Mighty Max bed is a 6 footer, I figure with the addition of the truck box, it should be a good length, but i guess it could be cut down. I really need to just rest the bed on it to see what lengths I'm working with. I also see a lot of Pintle Hitch stuff .... I assume its better offroad? Looks like it would flex, etc. a bit more. Should I convert to Pintle style?
  2. it will be the frame that the Comanche Bed will sit on ....... sorry, guess i left that out
  3. Update. I picked up this Mitsubishi Mighty Max pick up bed trailer, with some extra jeep goodies, for $150, with a title, etc. Its a spring under step up with the stock axle, I was thinking of going to Eastern Marine in Newark, DE and get a boat trailer axle in 5x4.5 lug pattern. The Mighty Max is the same width of the Comanche, so it should be a decent fit. I also picked up a truck box that I'm going to drill 2 holes into and mount onto the 2 tranmission studs that you can see protruding from the cross member. Dirty as all get out.
  4. Anyone have these, or any thoughts on them??? They seem cheap and cool looking. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1989-199 ... 414d32cf3a
  5. Update, with tail gate installed, lol, and one light ....... 33x12.50s Stockers
  6. anyone have a 2wd front axel from a comanche ..... ??? I'm in Lancaster, PA / Bel Air, MD
  7. So a fellow MJer had this bed that was going to go to scrap, so I went and saved it. I then picked up a tail gate. I snagged the wheels from a guy on BMJA for $30. The tires are cupped bad, but have 1/3 tread. My tire guy saved them for me, so once again they were a freebie. This project totals an astounding $80 ...... Any tips for an axle would be great. I was thinking of getting an old boat trailer and cutting and welding it up, changing the bearings to a 5x4.5 bolt pattern ..... any thoughts??? I'm sticking with the wheels, because I have an XJ on the same wheels and 33x12.50 MTRs, ill put some pix of my rig up later.
  8. Also check for a bent pin, I did the swap on an SE XJ with the dummy's and the temp didnt work because when i put it in I bent a pin, confused me for weeks.
  9. Thats one of your balls ...... its the vac chamber for the Cruz Control .... unfortunately you have the Uni-baller MJ (or XJ), but its ok John Kruk has one, Lance only has one. jk, all XJ's and MJ's are Uni-ballers, there is no second ball, although one could be added.
  10. lol, yea not much, just drawing it on paper shows that the shackle would probably have to almost droop below the level of the axle, lol by that time the drive angles would be impossible. I had shackles on my XJ and the springs appeared to de arch more, but thats a spring over setup. Best option would probably be Hell Creeks leaf pack since they come set up to correct pinion angle. Shackles would be good, but you would have to shim.
  11. Longer shackles will place the point of flex out slightly further ...... this will slightly alter weight distribution, and send the stress from the road through the spring and into the shackle ... think of it in terms of triangles.
  12. I replaced my stock 195 with a 180 and that worked great, as said earlier going any low is waste and doesnt assist as one would think. I really like the Stant Heavy Duty 180 Stat .... its $10ish I think and works well, they make a 160, but it stays open too much and doesnt allow the coolant to "get a rest" before going back into the beast. The other thing that could be done is Flow Kooler water pump.
  13. Socal ...... I read your previous post and saw that you replaced the gauges and got an engine temp of 240ish??? I had the same problem, I replaced the stock 195 thermo with a 180 and get 2 mpgs better, vehicle runs better, and the needle sits at around 210. .... I had the local pepboys use a laser temp thingy to check the temp and sure enough it was actually 240 ..... that seems very high, Also this was a 1996 XJ. Just for the record replacing both sensors on front and back of the block for the engine temp. is best. You will get a more accurate reading.
  14. I actually ordered it through a local Speed shop ...... I know that Autozone sometimes carries them, It's made by "Pilot"..... some others are junk or are really cheesy, but anyhow. I was thinking of getting some steel and the plates and making some kits, maybe in the $50 dollar range ...... Here's a pic that I took in blizzard Enjoy!!! Its pretty stiff, you could stiff'n it up with a bottom bracket ...... I used plastic nuts over top of the tips of the bolts so that the plastic hits the vehicle and not the bolt end.
  15. Since many of you guys have XJ's here's a little mod I finished up this morning ....... Materials: Pilot Automotive Stealth light LED wht/red License Plate Surround $20 Peice of Galvenized flat steel $4 First thing, mark holes for the end of the bracket that will mount to your existing plate holes. Then I measured where I needed bends in the steel, then used a hacksaw to cut just a little into the steel (1/4 through), just to allow it to bend easier. Second, Drill your holes for where you want the plate. Also remove your exisiting License Plate lamp, drill a small hole to allow the wires to go through. Then splice'm up. Lastly, mount it up, double check your connections I thought this was a cool idea for anyone who does not want to drill massive holes into their rear hatch. Many people run bumpers with spare tire mounts and sometimes its a pain to rewire the plate, this seems like a pretty simple solution.
  16. ......... Is this the actual list for inspection? ..... If so I can pick out a tons of cars/trucks/jeeps that are stock that would instantly fail ...... The bumper section makes reference to width of a bumper, as in it can not be longer than the body lines, but does not say anything about grill guards, or stingers, or any "supplemental" devices ...... http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/067/c ... 75.80.html
  17. I got it inspected in Jan. with the stock bumper on, I got hit, then put the stinger on. I can't find anything that states its legal, but driving around makes me nervous ... Does anyone have any links to PA inspection information. I drive like an old lady, and have never been pulled over, but it still makes me cautious. Could I get pulled over for a bumper? My friend was pulled over for not having any bumper ..... but what about 2much bumper
  18. Mini hi-jack of the thread ...........for the Comanche Kid How about a stinger front bumper ..... legal? I recently pulled off my stock one, because someone slammed into me in a parking lot, bent it all up and cracked my pass. side headlight bezel and front grill ..... the person just left, nothing, no note ..... Luckily I traded some kid on craigslist a set of old 31s on some wagon wheels for a front bumper.
  19. Pateince is key ........ I know the lift, tires and bumper are cool, but if its stock has a better potentail for a clean unbeaten history. If you want a wheeler/beater than go for it. I snagged my crazy clean 96 HO, that only needed a tail pipe and rear gas struts for $1200, it runs like a champ and gets 21mpg when I baby it. No need to rush, theres a Billion Xj's out there. right hand drive ........ eh, it may help you parellel park better, otherwise its just goofy
  20. sweet, thats a good shot ..... those horizontal rails, Could a U bole be slipped through them? or strap???
  21. trying to pick up one up, but put it on top of my XJ, I have some rain gutter Thule mounts and bars. Id like to just strap it to the top, or bolt it to the rack with some "U" bolts ......... I know the beds are about 60 inches wide, so the edges would hang over the sides a little. Just trying to do this with out a trailer.
  22. Anyone have a pic of a bed thats been pulled off a truck? specifically the underside? Thanks, Andrew
  23. Here's my rigs ........ No pix of the MJ yet, its got some rust, but not too much ........ when I recieve the MJ ill post it in the My Comanche's section Green '96 bone stock Craigslist find Red '93 4.5 inch Hell Creek lift Cragers, MTR's Some basic muffler, intake bolt on stuff Custom Front and rear bumpers (on currently, I know I need an up dated pic)
  24. That last post by LEAD ..... that thing looks good, I really dig that slightly beafier than stock look
